Killing a Cape buffalo with a bow and arrow is not for the faint-hearted!

All the buffalo pictures are of our camp buffalo.

They live close to camp, have protection from hunting.

Alan typically does not shoot his entire quota of buffalo. I’m probably mistaken but I think he takes around 26-28 buffalo a year off Madaba, more than half of which are in this 3-week safari every year. I thought the quota was 32 but I’m probably wrong.

October is the month that heralds the big bulls joining the herds for a bit of "nookie".

The Selous in general has consistent populations of Livingstone's Eland and also known to produce the best trophies.

Thankyou Fulvio. I agree, Selous Eland trophies often seem to to be a cut above.

We have been seeing tracks every day, including big bulls.

Followed a bunch yesterday by the wind decided against us.

This morning the decision was to go to the lake and shoot a hippo for croc bait.

We came across two dugga boys and went after them.

A while later they got into a bad thicket, and saw them from a few yards but no way to shoot.

Gave up and continued on.

Saw some vultures and went to investigate.

Lots of lion tracks in the river bed.

Then we found two bush pigs dead, seems from two days ago.

Nothing has touched them, which was a surprise.

No idea how they died.

Carried on and found some zebra and shot one.

Carried on and found a lone wildebeest bull and shot him too.

Decided to get back to camp with our game animals.

Back in camp b y three.

The rest are still out.

From the photo I can only surmise they tangled with a Black Mamba which must have struck them simultaneously, hence their folding up close to each other.

We once came across a dead Wildebeest which appeared in good health other than being dead.

One of our savvy trackers did some skinning and was able to locate and expose a discolored area which was attributed to a Black Mamba bite in the neck/shoulder area, exonerating the low striking Puff Adder.

Nothing had touched the Wildbeest mentioned which we found mid-morning and already stiff, indicating it could have happened late evening or night before.

We found him because we spotted Vultures perched in the nearby trees and why was the carcass intact? Could be due to a particular smell from the poisoning effects released from the carcass that acts as a warning?

Damned if I can pin the reason.

I can however confirm that our Indian Crows will NOT eat a rat that has died from rat poison.

Trouble was finding a bull and an obliging one.

A nightjar had a head collision with Tony.

Enjoying all the photos thanks Saeed. Madaba seems to be quite well vegetated with good game populations if the animal tracks are indicator.

The pics of the eroded cliffs of red coloured soils seem a bit unique. Does anyone know more about that ?

Now you are talking … used to be famous for elephants.

I will post pictures when I get them.

This lot are too busy hunting and don’t pass their cameras to me very often.

The rocks apparently are caused by erosion.

No working brains around our camp.

Yesterday after I shot the wildebeest, at a great distance of 100 feet!!

We were loading it when a young bull buffalo strolled by less than a 100 yards away!

Best past is I mentioned this to Wayne, our video man.

He said is this e your tricks??

Sadly that is an ugly relative.

The bushbuck was killed by wild dogs.

I shot two hippos.

One in the water for doc bait and one on land for lion bait.

Had a hilarious moment yesterday at breakfast.

Greg jumped off the breakfast table and ran out.

As soon as he was out of the tent he start tripping.

Apparently ants went up his legs!

Ha, Ha.... just checking!!(
