The Queen handled "The Wind of Change" and the dismantling of Empire with an amazing amount of grace and dignity.

She was respected by all.

Since I read the news, Rule Britannia keeps running through my head. She was truly the last Empress. An Amazing Lady!

Now would be a good time to drop the king/queen think in England. It's the 21st century for heaven's sake.

The problem with that is that the majority of Brits support the monarchy by a slim majority. The divide is along age lines, of course.

And replace with what; self appointed or old boys club Presidents, we've all seen enough of these idiots in various countries around the world both democracies and dictatorships. Or we could have corrupt and power hungry idiot Prime Ministers, or maybe we just stick to pure greedy, corrupt and vicious Dictators, hello mister Putin!!!.

"It's the 21st Century for heavens sake" Yer right and the world hasn't learned anything.

She was a grand lady. She lived her life in service of her country and you can't help but admire that.

Whether the monarchy has relevance in the future depends on the monarchs from here on and some of the kids call that into question. No names.

Hey Biebs, before worrying about the mote in the Commonwealth nations eye perhaps you should examine the beam in America's (or whatever the Bible says).
While there is logic in the concept of the Republic there are faults in it's practical application.
Even in the 21st Century constitutional monarchy provides a more stable form of government.
There are huge advantages in a system which seperates the role of Head of State and Head of Government. Having a geriatric Head of State is an advantage if their wisdom can guide a younger Head of Government. Having a geriatric doing both jobs can be a disaster as witnessed with the last two American Presidents. Political advantage always interferes with the Head of State's real job of Statesmanship in the long term.
Perhaps it is time the USA abandoned their experiment with Republicanism and joined the other English speaking nations in the Commonwealth and had a Governor General who stood above petty party politics? I am sure King Charles 111 would welcome you back into the fold!
My American family are going to enjoy this post!

I think she served with 14 prime ministers. Churchill, helped the young queen when she first ascended to the role. There is something to be said about balance and stability. She was an absolute class act and chose her duty above many things. She is someone to be admired and respected.

Thank you Drongo for illustrating my point!
Most Americans cannot understand the conflict of interest inherant in a system which combines two roles in one president.
Of course Boris wasn't above petty politics. As Prime Minister politics was his job. He was head of Government NOT Head of State. Under a constitutional monarchy when he failed to perform he was replaced as soon as he could no longer maintain the support of his Members of Parliament.
The Queen accepted his resignation and appointed Liz Truss who had the confidence of the House.
The American system does not work at all when it is near impossible to impeach a President who proves to be incompetant as either Head of State or Head of Government.
Trump was competant as Head of Government but a danger to his country as Head of State. Biden is the opposite! Both would have lasted less time than Boris under a constitutional monarchy.

I see some little dickheads calling for “true democracy” by demanding the abolition of the Monarchy??!!

Those are same people who don’t want to hear anyone opposing their sick views on our daily lives.

I had the extraordinary honor of meeting Her Majesty in October 1984 in, of all places Sheridan Wyoming. It was just a day after the IRA blew up a hotel room several floors above Maqggie Thatchers room, if memory serves. The Queen was in Sheridan visiting on her way to a Montana Senator's horse ranch just across the border, to buy a few steeds. Strange but true. I remember vividly the entourage of her shark like protection detail, their eyes never looking at any other eyes, just constantly moving across the random assorted townsfolk just above belt level. The high buildings in town were staffed by black suited well armed "overwatch" details. High above all were several helos moving slowly in some unknown dance. There, directly in my path was Her Majesty, Elizabeth. A tiny thing in physical presence, yet radiating amazing stature and poise. Polite and proper, addressing a few citizens and enquiring about mundane things. The Queen and the Cowboys. Her sense of duty struck me that day, and the memory of this strong human being facing the unknown on a routine daily basis, cognizant there were those that would gladly take her life, was just amazing. We will never see her equal again anywhere...
