I picked up the last two pieces of the puzzle yesterday from Jim Wisner (front sight and wedding band sling swivel).

Ray Price got the ball started with a Zkk 602 action. He barreled it and did the quarter rib. He also did the stockwork. Jim Wisner provided the three position safety, extractor, front sight and barrel band swivel. He also worked his magic so it would feed, fire, extract and eject the ammo (some think all of this is important).

I got the brass yesterday from Huntington's and already had a couple of boxes of Woodleigh 525 grain softs. No dies, yet(next to do).

I haven't decided on the engraving yet. I am leaning towards English scroll (Rose and Scroll, maybe) and a gold Elephant on the floorplate.

Is that a Silvers pad?

Nope. London Guns. I like their pads. They have had some transitions, but now are just right. They are a solid pad about the same squish as the solid part of the Decelerator pad.

I will let you know how it works with "'ol Snort".

That is one bitchin' smoke pole. Go easy on the engraving. Just some understated rose and scroll will do it just fine.

Have you actually used the London Guns pad on this or any other rifle and is it as effective as the Pachmayr Decelerator?

In any case, you're better off without the Silvers, which is why I asked what you were using for a boomer like your .505. The Silvers is about as much of a "pad" as a rock is a pillow.

But I do like a red pad, and yours looks good. A black one just doesn't carry off the classic British look.

I thought that I had heard or read somewhere that Pachmayr was making a red decelerator these days, too.

I originally put a Silver's pad on my 458. They are a great pad to work with, but you might as well have a steel buttplate on the rifle. I replaced it with the London Gun's pad. I also put the London pad on the 338 Magnum I built for my son.

I like the Decelerator pads, but I think I like the London Gun's pad better for the bigger kickers. There may be better pads for the really hard kickers, but I can't stand the looks of those 990 ventilated pads. The London pads also have the spur on the topline of the pad like the Silver's do. It's a nice touch.

You are right about the red Pachmayr pads. They are available.

One word of advise, if you dip Copenhagen or chew Brown Mule, spit it out before you shoot or take a box of cleanex to wipe it out of the scope lens!

A lovely gun and the wood is correct and to my likeing..I like to see properly laid out quarter sawn wood on my guns, and the blacker the better.

Gave up the chew a few years back, but I'll head your advise and bring the kleenex in case anything else needs a good wiping.



BYW, my usual was Cope. Other than that it was Bull of the

Woods. Brown's Mule would do in a pinch(pun intended).
