Tracks Across Africa -- Tanzania

Bill/OregonTracks Across Africa -- Tanzania
Just remembered to watch the show, which comes on here at 2:30 Sunday afternoons. Guy from Houston shot a really fine Cape buff with what looked like either a .500 or .577 DR.
But I had to watch 14 minutes of commercials to see about 16 minutes of film, including an extended visit with Larry Potterfield, who has grown rich levying shipping charges against my credit cards ...

Aaron NeilsonGuys - I certainly don't have all the experience with outdoor television as the boys at Safari Classics, but I've definitely done my fair share. Fact is, advertisers (commercials) are a necessary evil, just that simple. I know its not always pleasant, but without it, we have NO - TAA, or any other outdoor television to watch. I know for me, I would be very dissapointed if TAA was no longer on the air.

SBTActually, the commercials on hunting shows are of interest. Most of it is stuff we need and use. Sure beats those on the networks.

jdollartrue-until you have seen the Hornady DGX/DGS commercial for the 5-6th time on the same show! A damn near 50:50 split of commercials to show is absurd. i finally gave up and quit watching this stuff.

415sbairdAgreed. Let the cable box or whatever record your hunting shows. Look at the commercials if you want to, or fast forward. Surprising how you can watch several episodes quickly.
Best feature though is replaying ele stalk and shoot scenes over several time to get a good breakdown on just how its done. Very informative!

Frank BellerI like the meat, but the fat is a bit hard to swallow. So, I record & then cut to the chase by skipping thru the commercials. That way I can watch two or three 1/2 hour shows in 30 minutes. All the good & none of the BS.

GunsCoreI have my DVR set to automatically record the hunting shows I like to watch. I never watch them in real time, but only the recordings so I can just fast forward through all the commercials. It works great.

African Hunters QuestHaving watched some American Cable that was PVR recorded for me, you guys do get blasted with commercials.
I have never seen so many adds.
Our version of cable, DSTV has less than 10% adds. Our subscription costs about USD 50 per month.
When we watch tracks etc here there is not more than a few minutes of advertising through the entire show.
Thanks TAA, keep up the good work

Bill/OregonI'm certainly aware of the need for sponsors. It just seems the adverts are on the verge of constituting the majority of the show. This is getting worse, not better, and that is new.

Matt GrahamMaybe things are tight with the TV show funding?? If the sponsors paid more maybe they wouldnt need so many adverts?? Just wondering about that...

tradewindsRecord the shows so you can skip the commercials

jorgeActually the commercials on that show weren't too bad until that doofus from Ruger started putting the "Fueled By Hornady" bumper sticker on the rifle stocks. If you really want to see over the top commercialsm the Brwoning show is the absolute worse.

Dave FulsonIn no particular order. Hornady sticker was on ONE SHOW ONLY, it is not coming back.Next, 30 minute TAA, 8 minutes of commercial, including open and close. That is EVERY show on Outdoor Channel, not just ours. That works our to 73% of the 30 minutes is about the hunt.
Yesterdays Dallas Cowboy game, like every NFL game, features EXACTLY 60 minutes of punt, pass, and kick. The telecast lasted 3 and one half hours. That is 29% content. Potterfield, by the way, is NOT a TAA sponsor. He buys massive advertising on Outdoor Channel and they place him in programs of his choice ( the top rated ones ) If Bill and those that feel as he does wish to pass a plate 52 weeks a year on our behalf, I will put his name on the title page and be most happy to be the only single sponsor on the Outdoor Channel. Ok.... OUCH, I twisted my ankle getting off the soapbox.

larryshoresDave: Are all the networks carrying TAA airing new shows. It seems like I am getting all reruns.

pagosawingnutGood answer, Dave. Now let Tamela wrap your ankle so you don't have to go to the doctor!
19 December 2011, 23:05
Dave FulsonHi Guys
Ankle swelling , but Tamela has promised a foot rub ! Seriously, here is how Tracks airs. First quarter airs 13 new shows, these same 13 re-air during the 2nd quarter. Another 13 new episodes run in 3rd quarter, than re-run in the 4th. Same system in place for 7 years. The new shows, with Ivan as host start first week in Jan, 2012. He is working his ass flat, but I could not be more excited with the results. Exciting new shows are right around the corner.
Thanks for watching guys. We are working hard to bring you exciting safari action to the very best of our combined abilities. We do all the work , and Kim Kardasian makes all the money in this reality TV game... Damnit !!!!

Any chance of seeing her in a future episode? She and Ivan would make great co-hosts... let me see, leopard blind, close quarters, hmmmm. Might be the makings of an even greater successes for TAA!

sam308That might make for some really interesting video because I'm sure that Ivan is twice the man of any of the shmucks we have seen her with!

Bill/OregonDave: I am sorry that your fine product has to be so riddled with commercials. I guess I'll have to try the record and edit process.

subsailor74Bill - recording and zipping through the ads that do not intereset you is definitely the way to go. Like you, my Larry tolerance is pretty low - "and that's the way it is" - give me a break!
Hey Dave, when Tambudzai finsihes with your foot rub, tell her the ""Dagga Boys are next in line!

strapmanI tape all my favorite shows such as TAA and UWS on my DVR and watch them when on my treadmill. I zip thru the commercials and get to the meat of the program quickly. Not a bad use of time at all.

lavacaDave F.,
I enjoy the show and seem to be able to deal with the adverts. One thing that would be helpful is the precise date of the hunt. The last TAA episode (I think I've seen it before -- consistent with your explanation above), unless I just missed it, says its in the January to March extended season. That hunt is right next door to where I'm headed in March '12. Whether it was January or March would have been interesting to get a better idea of what to expect.
