Japsie certainly doesn’t have Nyae Nyae!!

I was there last week with Stephan!!!!

The conservancy south of Nyae Nyae is Na Xaqna.

This is held by Thormalen and Cochran.

He may get some quota from them, but they only have
2 ele in total annually , plus maybe a 3rd from time to time, so this is doubtful too.....

Don’t know how this sought of misinformation gets out.........

I have hunted a lot with Buzz in the Valley, also Makuti on the escarpment. You would be exceedingly well served, but of course there are plenty of quality outfitters offering other experiences.
Mostly I hunt tuskless, it is addictive in the extreme. It goes without saying that you will want to be very mindful of who is going to stand next to you. It’s close, exciting, and fulfilling.

One thing to keep in mind regarding leopard in the valley is that they run a bit smaller than in the low-veldt. I am more than happy with mine.

When I look at what a trophy lion hunt costs, I shake my head and think of how many tuskless that would buy me. I have done my one cat hunt, and I think leopard is a lot more sensible.

You might want to reconsider how important importability is for you. You are wanting to turn possessions into experiences. I am kind of in that mode as well, at 65. By spending more on importable trophies, you are spending more on possessions that are a lot harder to sell than a gun collection. I look at my trophies now and wonder what I will do with them when we down-size. Ivory excepted, of course. That’s personal.

You may well get more for your money having your hunt videoed. You get to relive the experience, share it, and it takes up a lot less room!

Now that I am retired I am not sure how many more trips are affordable. I am going back for tuskless in 2020, and I expect any subsequent trips will be for tuskless. I have hunted a couple of bulls, and they were wonderful. It’s just that I can hunt probably 3 tuskless for what that costs.

Thanks Marty and all for your information. It is all going into a file so I can weigh and balance the upcoming trip. Hell, as much as I love Afria I also am developing an interest in Argentina and Asia for ibex and perhaps a sheep.

The market is slow in doubles now but I've sold nine with several more to go, both black powder express, nitro express, and bore rifles. If anyone is looking for something feel free to PM me.

Marty: I will look into tuskless. I have some emails out but one PH does not have them on quota. Also, I'm wondering if I should go after 1-2 critters on several hunts or try to the one longer hunt for as many as possible. I've been retired 14+ years and so want memories rather than "stuff."
Cheers, fellas, and my thanks again.
Cal

Cal-
If you haven’t seen Buzz’s first video, “Hunting the African Elephant” you must.
You get a feel for what tuskless hunting is, and the interviews with Ian Nyschens, Sten Cedergren, and Richard Harland are worth the price in and of themselves. You’re a history guy, right up your alley.
I have killed 9 elephant, 7 of which were tuskless. There is nothing else like it.

Personally, I don’t like trips with any less than 12-14 hunting days. That way you don’t have to hit the ground running. With 7-10 days I feel like I’m just getting into it and I am starting to mentally get ready to go home.

Tuskless/leopard is logical, but you will need to buy 7-10 days for the tuskless and 14 for the leopard.
Leopard is usually better earlier in the season, but the jesse is really thick. The tuskless would definitely get your blood pressure up. No bargains on unsold quota early season.

You can add an eland without buying more days, and it’s a tracking hunt like elephant. Plus you get to shoot another really big animal. That’s what I am doing next year.
