Beautiful babies.

Saeed,

You should add an album in the "photos forum" of your pet animals. I always look forward to these pictures.

Amazing. Saeed, my wife drives to Bab Al Shams most days as we keep our horse there, and she regularly spots oryx by the road. Never seen the scimitar horned variety before though.
Can't help wondering what they taste like!

Very nice Saaed,

Looking at the photos how would you tell the difference between a baby scimitar and arabian oryx they look the same to me?

They are very easy to distinguish once you know them.

The difficult ones are the cheetahs.

People always wonder how I can tell which is which. Again, it is not that difficult once you know them.

We are hoping to get some new arrivals of these soon.

In the first photo, you can see two of the Arabian oryx that were born last year. They are the ones in the back.

Gentlemen,

There is an enormous amount of photos on our Photo and Video Album Forum

You might like to check it out.

We spent last weekend in the empty quarter with the kids, and I have added a selection of photos of this trip there.

A weekend in the Empty Quarter

The kids had an absolute ball climbing those enormous sand dunes.

Yeah, are the horns that long when they're born? Momma must be pretty ornery afterward!!

When they are born they have tiny lumps on their heads, as the beginning of the horns.

The ones up in the photo are about 3 months old.

Terrific photos, Saeed - both on this thread and on the "Empty Quarter" thread. (That place is well-named.)

If you don't mind my asking, what camera did you use for these?

Great late afternoon sun photo, Saeed! In Wemmer's backyard we have smaller dunes- kids use plastic discs/sleds to slide down. It is great fun- guaranteed to wear them out!
Keep up the great work.

Saeed,

A nice addition to your holdings. The young ones look very pale compared to gemsbok babies that age that are very golden/tan color.

I may be dreaming of cutting their throats and seeing how good they may eat, but suggesting there's a resemblance to Walter is just plain mean.

Gentlemen,

The photos of the animals were with a Sony HX1. Most of the photos of the Empty quarter were also by the Sony HX1. The last one of me coming down the sand dune is by a Canon D50.

I have been very impressed by the Sony HX1. It has a long zoom, takes great photos, and absolutely great HD video as well.

It is my daughter's camera. She loves photograpy too, and wants to use an SLR like daddy, but they are very heavy for her and she finds trying to look through the view finder and holding the camera bit of a hassle.

We are going to Kenya on a photo safari in a couple of weeks time, and she is going to be using this camera.

I am taking a Nikon D300s and two lenses. 18-200 VR II and a 70-300 VR.

We should have plenty of good photos to share with you when we return.

Saeed ..

If you wanted an extended real adventurious photo safari and branch out with a side trip to Livingstone Zambia, then we could maybe entice you to come on over to visit our Bird Estate (game breeding ranch) near Kalomo where we are doing some intensive game breeding of clean cape buffalo, sable, and Nyala ... also we could take you to see a croc breeding farm as well which is a few hiurs drive from our own ranch.

Anyhow you have a wonderful adventure

Cheers, Peter

...many thanks...yes, the clarity, sharpness and resolution of the sony is quite impressive...looking forward to the photo-safari trophies...

Congratulations on the new additions, Saeed. Your photos are fantastic.

Where, exactely, is the Empty Quarter? Isn't it in Southeastern Saudi Arabia? I spent a few months working on a project in Riyadh back in the 1980s, and I heard of it then, but I do not know where it is located. We didn't get a lot of opportunity to travel throughout the Kingdom, as we were very busy with our work.

Congratulations on your growing herds. They are cute little buggers. Sheesh, I just called dinner cute. I must be getting soft in my old age. Another year or two and you will either have to start culling or trading off for other critters to add to your zoo.If you get in over your head just forget cute and cudly. Go for thinking freezer space. Of course you will need to keep good breeding stock to continue forward. Alo a good chest freezer. I like the Jeffery Daummer model it should hold about 6 bodies and assorted pieces parts.
