Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

SaeedGentlemen,
Everyone knows white rhino are only found on farms that have bred them. If they did not we are unlikely to see any alive today.
So no matter what your outlook is on farm hunts. It will be interesting to see their photos.
06 April 2007, 21:49
L. David KeithSaeed is correct, all huntable White Rhino reside on ranches. Some are large but fenced hunting ranches, some breeding ranches. My understanding is, by RSA law dangerous game must be under fence to protect not only public interests and life, but the game owners financial interest which can be very large. Unfortunately for the true spirit of hunting wild White Rhino, it's our only choice. That's why some prefer to dart a Rhino and then have a fiberglass replica made to enhance their trophy room. My intention is only to offer the only viable means to hunt the White Rhino. Many may not partake in this endeavor but for those wishing to hunt the White Rhino we have no other means. In Zimbabwe recently, I had the opportunity to be where a good number of Black Rhino live and roam. However, as most of you know, they are not huntable currently...at any price. Maybe someday both will be available again in the wilds of Africa, but I doubt in my lifetime. I am working on getting some photo's, if nothing else for us all to enjoy taking a peek at Mr. Tank. The pics I took last July in RSA were taken with a disposable camera (sorry guys) and do not do the animals justice. These are not huntable at this time and may remain so. When I get some photos, I will be glad to post the hunt details, as they reside in different areas. Good hunting, LDK

shakariHope you won't mind me correcting you in that Black Rhino are now huntable. CITES now issue a limited number of permits for old bulls that are past breeding age.......

L. David KeithNot at all Steve. I had heard that but only as a rumor. Does this mean the US will allow importation? What country offers the Black, Namibia? Thanks and good hunting, David

shakariSouth Africa and Namibia got (if I remember the number correctly), 5 each last year and I believe have 5 more for this year. - And yes, the US does accept these permits. If you do a search on this forum or the African hunt reports, I believe you'll even find pictures and a hunt report of one taken by an American client.......
06 April 2007, 22:32
L. David KeithThanks again Steve. I imagine the scarcity of the permits is why none of my Outfitters have mentioned it, and I've not had anyone inquiring for a Black. Appreciate the heads up. I'm sure it's a hunt of considerable expense

Good hunting, David

Use Enough GunI believe that the black rhino hunts were going for $150-200,000 and up. Maybe more now. I had not heard that the US was allowing the import of black rhino at this time. Are you sure? Thanks.
06 April 2007, 22:37
shakariThey were very well advertised at the time both in the industry and elsewhere and just prior to the 05 SCI convention, the gossip was that they were going to sell for a fortune. - In reality, although they were expensive, they weren't astronomical.
06 April 2007, 22:41
shakariIn answer to UEG, The figure you mention was around the expected price, but they actually sold for a lot less than that..... and although I don't know any of the clients who took the BRs personally, I'm pretty damn sure the US did allow import because I heard from a USF&WS official that they were happy to allow them in as the correct permits had been issued and the relevant game depts in Africa had made a very good case as to why the individual animals should be culled...... that argument being that they were all old bulls, past breeding age and were attacking and killing/injuring younger bulls who were capable of breeding.....
06 April 2007, 22:46
Use Enough GunThanks for the update. At the prices they want, I don't think that there are many taking up the offer to shoot black rhino.
06 April 2007, 22:54
shakariGive it 5 years or so and they'll probably be the same price as WR...... about US$25k - US$40k ish....... and even at that price, I personally reckon it's far too much money for not enough hunt. - It's a far better deal and a lot more fun to dart them.
