458 - have a look at 9,3 test - page 3.

I guess you are talking about 9.3x64 - there is a comparable data for 9.3x66:

Oryx (bonded): penetration 38cm, weight retention 80% - 9.3x66 penetration is better than with 9.3x62 (35cm)

Author’s conclusion:

Norma Oryx 286 grain: A bonded bullet that stays together very well. It is soft, which results in a large diameter at higher speeds.

Mega (not bonded): penetration 32cm, weight retention 58% - 9.3x66 penetration is worse than with 9.3x62 (34cm)

Author’s conclusion:

Lapua Mega 286 grain: Conventional lead/copper bullet with a good reputation. The jacket
has a thicker portion in the middle, which locks the core to the jacket. The test showed good results. A lot of bullet for the money.

There is also a great topic over at NE on 9.3 bullets:

9.3 mm bullets sectioned

I'd pick Oryx.

Thanks .. I,m going to do something dumb and use my 9.3x64 as a summer gun this year .. That means it may need to dump a bear coming fast and close ....I just want to try it and see how well it works . But I want to stack the deck in my favor before the shot ... Thanks again ...

Should be OK - seen 230gr Oryx from 9.3x74R went through the shoulders&out of a ~200kg bear broadside.

Norma Oryx is a great lion/eland bullet. A bit on the soft side for buff. Have shot one buff with the new 325rn 9,3 oryx. Still wouldn't recomend it for buff but it does make a big hole and penetrate very well on eleand!

It sounds like it will be a perfect moose bullet but if I get a bison permit I should use a TSX .. Also it should be good for frontal shots on bear . Thats kindof the most important shot ... I was amazed at the velocity I got using IMR 4350 and a standard magnum primer ... My rifle only has a 21.5 " barrel ... I went up 2 grains above the 75 gr load that I settled on ..It was ok , no sticky bolt lift or other over max pressure indicators . but I think 2675fps is a good velocity for a 285 gr 9.3 bullet .....Ganyana ,I Really enjoyed your articles in Rifle magazine .. In fact it was your article that prompted me to try these 285 gr bullets ... That and I got my 9.3 finished up with 2nd recoil lug and band sling stud and express sights .....Thanks for the reply all .......
