http://livingsocial.com/escape...y-resort?msdc_id=581 Thought this was really cool. It's a place you can take the wife or girlfriend to stay and have the pseudo African experience. *Don't know if I'm breaking any rules but thought this was rather unique that some guys might want to check out. I also have no representation in this. It was sent to me. This place has everything from really nice lodging to basic tented camps! Just like Africa. For you yankees, err snowbirds, this might be a pretty cool place to take the mrs' to give her some semblance of what Africa is like while getting away from some of that heavy winter. Again, just thought it was something unique and pretty cool.

Anybody that wants to get up close and personal with an Ostrich should read the following story (actually it is one of the funniest things I have read on AR - ever) - ENJOY (scroll down to 1115's post): http://forums.accuratereloadin.../295103112#295103112

I was watching Steve Scott hunting in RSA many years ago and an ostrich attacked Steve and had him on the ground. All i have to say is there would have been the biggest bird on the barbie that night. Don't get angry get even.. Mike

It's funny now, but it wasn't funny worth a crap when it was happening!

We have something similar here in Northern California: Safari West I have been there several times because the school where I teach does a yearly field trip. It is neat and depressing at the same time. But the third graders love it and for many of them this is their only chance to see these animals in the flesh. I personally don't get that "Africa vibe" that I get when I am in Africa, but seeing the animals is nice. I can't imagine going to one of these safari parks as a replacement for the real thing. I guess I feel that a family trip to Africa is worth saving for. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

Years ago the San Diego Zoo had a wild African park where you could actually spend the night surrounded by animals. If I remember you were locked in at eveningtime and released so to speak the next morning. Looked to be a nice overnite. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

Doesn't sound much like 115 in the day and a cool 85 at night, with netting, on Lake Kariba. Of course the G&T sundowners probably don't taste as good in AC.

Himeji, Japan, home of the famous Edo Period castle shown in the movie Shogun, I think, has one of those drive-through safari parks wide a wide variety of African and other animals. It is designed like Jurassic Park, with double gates, and you drive your own car. I would not mention it except that the quality and size of the animals are outstanding. HUge lions and tigers. A big bear pit in the area where one can walk around. One throws bread at the bears who line up for it. Ominous animals. A monster trophy African elephant. Then there are the ponies and chickens. Ngorongoro Crater is not far of that as well. At least this can be done for a weekend. Only have to add some Tsetse fly and some Cape Buffalo to hunt and bingo!
