It is nice to see that many people are still seeing large rock pythons around in many hunting areas, they are one of the few snakes that are protected by law as far as I know. If you see a python, you know that you are in the real African bush.

It is quite interesting how many people have seen puff-adders and vine-snakes. I must say, for every one seen, there must be many more that went un-noticed by walkers by. Most of the puffies I have seen, have been either squashed on the road, beaten to a pulp in a field or busy crossing a road. As for vine-snakes, they too have a habit of staying still in trees, and the only time you will see them is if they move, or poke half their head and body accross a path when you are walking past, and you may wander why that thorn-less branch is in the way!

I don't think this proves anything. The above does comprises quite a few hunting days and snakes for me have not been all that common.

Oh yeah? Methinks the very few snakes seen proves pretty convincingly that you make too much noise when walking in the bush! Wink

In good hunting.

I brought one of those envelopes with "rattlesnake eggs" on it. It has a rubber band and washer wound up inside. I showed it to PH Mike Payne, who promptly wanted to burn it. I asked him if he at least wanted to see them first. His head almost poked through the top of the cruiser. After he recovered he got the trackers, then back in camp got Andy Hunter and Ian Gibson with it.

Fours seasons of fun and games with it. Always a new victim. Best fifty cents I ever spent.

One litte grass snake is all I've seen. Fine by me.

Been to Africa 6 times and only seen two snakes, which was two too many. One was some type of constrictor swimming in the Zambezi and the other was some type of thin green thing in the road (a green mamba perhaps?)
