It looks like I finished acquiring the collection tonight with an order with Abebooks.

I am 99% certain there are 14 titles. Please correct me if I am wrong. (These are not the books he wrote, but the series of classics he assembled and wrote an into for each book in the late 80s for St Martin Press)

They are, in no particular order.....

1) The Man-Eaters of Tsavo (Patterson)

2) Hunting the Elephant in Africa (Stigand)
3) African Hunter (von Blixen-Finecke)

4) The Book of the Lion (Pease)
5) Big Game Hunting in North-eastern Rhodesia (Letcher)
6) Memories of An African Hunter (Lyell)

7) African Game Trails (Roosevelt)

8) African Adventures (Lyell)

9) Big Game Hunting in Central Africa (Buckley)

10) Kill or Be Killed (Foran)

11) After Big Game in Central Africa (Foa) -

12) Big Game Hunting and Collecting in East Africa, 1903-1926 (Kittenberger)

13) Lion-Hunting in Somali-Land (Melliss)

14) Recollections of William Finaughty (Finaughty)

There is also "Warrior", about Richard Meinhertzhagen, but although it was printed by St. Martin's Press in 1998 I'm not sure if it's part of the same collection.

According to my knowledge there is only the 14. I also completed my series a couple of years ago with an order from ABEbooks. Nicely done!

There are only 14. I completed my collection using Ebay. Later after I acquired all of them I found most of them in one used bookstore for cheaper than what I paid for those titles. Oh well, such is life.

I paid $20-$25 for most of them, $30 for a couple and the most was $65 for African Hunter (von Blixen-Finecke). Since he was of Out of Africa book/movie fame, I guess there was a bit wider appeal for his book and a bit more hard to come by.

Used book prices are funny. I see the very same book selling for $30 in one place and $300 in another. Abebooks almost always has found me cheaper prices compared to Amazon or eBay for the exact same book. In fact, often I find the same vendor selling the same copy on different websites for different prices!
It pays to shop around a bit.

The only thing I need right now is a dust jacket for After Big Game in Central Africa by Foa. Any readers, not collectors got one they want to part with?? I figure I will have to buy the book a second time just for the DJ. But that is pretty low priority right now.

Are there any other collections/series, reprint or not that anyone can recommend me trying to collect?

The African Reprint series,
J A Hunter [4 boooks]
F C Selous [ 4 books, as far as I know]
T V Bulpin [ those related to hunting]
Tony Snachez-Arino, his African hunting series could be a difficult one to complete.
There, that should keep you busy and out of pocket for a while. Big Grin

Books of Zimbabwe (formerly Books of Rhodesia) is the original publisher of this series. I bought my set about ten years ago; each bound in cape buffalo with a separate slip-case. It's a beautiful collection.

Some of the books are still available, but not the whole set. See BoZ: Africana - Hunting Series.

They also used to publish an elephant bound set but I think they're long gone.

They've also got a whole Rhodesiana series HERE. Great reading.

Thanks Scriptus and Steve

I still need 7 out of the 36 in the African reprint series(gold)

The J A Hunter books are awesome, I have 3 out of the 4. Also have a couple of Bulpin and Selous books.

The Tony Sanchez-Arino will be the difficult one for me as i will be paying in rands!!! Smiler

I think ill start with the BoZ Hunting series next, thanks for the info!
