Is there a time limit after trophies have been dipped and packed. What I mean is, I believe this is just a temporary step to help preserve the trophy until the taxidermist can do his job. But dip and pack isn't considered a permanent step... is it?

I notice some guys waiting quite awhile for their trophies. Does simple dip and pack keep the trophies mountable for a year or so. Or is something else done as soon as the taxidermist gets it?

If you wanted to spread out getting your trophies back over a couple years. What needs to be done? How long could you spread it out?

My taxidermist told me that they could keep just the way you receive them and they would last for a few years. And if you freeze them, they will last a life time. I spread mine out over two years and had no problems.

BigGuy,

I'm sure some of the taxidermists will chime in here but I think you have a couple options to spread the "pain" out over time. The hides are (or should be) rock-hard dry when they arrive. You could probably store for an extended time somewhere dry and cool or perhaps in a freezer. No problem with the skull/horns they should be fine.

A second option would be to have the hides tanned as soon a you get them and then work on getting the finished mounts done over time. I suspect any good taxidermist will work with you on this.

Thanks guys,

The freezer has been my best friend during budget indiscretions in the past. Wink Good to know that's still an option with dipped and packed hides as well.
