I'm getting ready to recieve my trophies from SA. I live in West Palm Beach and was planning on having them shipped to Miami. I recently heard from another hunter, that the trophies could be held up there for quite some time at $30 a day storage fee while waiting to be cleared by customs. Is this normal? He suggested New York and using Flora and Fauna to clear customs. Any suggestions?

I just cleared my own in New Orleans. You need to check fish and wildlife site and or customs to find approved ports either air or sea.
I had a 3 day grace period before a 10 dallar fee was to be charged for storage. total cost was $25.00 to shipper and $9.00 to customs.
If you live close you may choose to do it your self. It took me a half day each time. Fish and wildlife was very help full you can down load all forms.

Miami USDA is the hang up and cause for delay. We recommend our clients to have sent direct to Atlanta where we can clear them and get delivered without the delays. See huntingtrophy.com for details.

Thanks for the info. I was planning on clearing the trophies myself since I live so close, but I've been hearing a lot of negative things about Customs in Miami, plus my shipment includes a dip/pack warthog which would be a problem clearing it without an agent from what I've researched

Dilman:

Can't advise you about current clearing of trophies whether in NY or in Miami. However I can say that Flora and Fauna in NY dealt with me back in 1993 in not only a professional way but in a real nice personal way. They explained everything to me on a day by day basis about getting my buff through. (I was interested to find out that no government agency was interested in opening the shipment crate - except USDA - and because they were watching for disease) I found out that Flora and Fauna had close intimate contacts with government people and everything went off without a hitch. For what it's worth, I highly recommend them.

Since you have a warthog, it will have to be cleared by USDA and then has to be sent/or picked up only be a properly licensed taxidermist. At least that is what everyone has all ways told me.

I need to get my trophies to Dallas. Previously I had them flown from Africa to Denver and Jonas Brothers handled them, then sent them to Dallas.

I am thinking of using a taxidermist in Zimbabwe then flying them to Dallas, or using a taxidermist in the Dallas area. Anyone have any experience getting them to DFW?

Dilman,

I just received my trophies right before the Thanksgiving holiday break. I did use a Customs Broker (Maria at Hunter International cost was $310). I went down by the airport in Miami and picked up the paperwork from another customs broker called (KCI Customs I think?). Went over to the airport, paid $39 for storage (3days x $13/day), watch the guys load the crates in my truck and was on my way within about an hour. No problems what so ever.

I had two crates, 1 with warthogs and 1 with other plains game. The only difference would be mine were completed trophies. However, the crate with the hogs had been opened and then closed back up. Things went very smoothly without a hitch!

Let me know if you need any additional info.
