Don't waste your time on this guy. He's full himself and thinking he has the only profession worthy of real men (so he "lands at night on a rolling deck" who cares? Many others and I fought up close and personal, it's what we did big deal). Not to mention his pushing of Sharp to anyone who'll read to it over and over again. Christ I'd rather have a Democrat like Lieberman to listen to than him anyday.

Please don't quote me with stuff I never said, CATS. My job was easy compared to the gents in the trenches. Were you one of those? really???? What service, unit, AOR,etc. Please tell us, CATS along with your other stories. Lieberman you say? Take time off from watching Jerry Springer and Survivor and do some research into Lieberman's voting record on gun ownership. And CATS, it's a pitching and not a rolling deck, dumbass. jorge EDITED USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

Sounds like the experiences with this are as varied as the people having them. Personally on my last return a bit over a year ago the customs guy asked one question - "you got anything you're not supposed to?" Never checked a paper, case or bag! Conversely, on the way over I was forbidden to take a NEW, unfueled Zipo lighter in my checked bag but was allowed four packs of matches in my pocket! My wife had to show her ticket to JoBerg to buy a lighter at Heathrow (going over), yet I carried a cricket lighter all the way home in my pocket - duely placing it in the tray with my wallet, belt, etc. at each security point! Makes me feel much safer! An old man sleeps with his conscience, a young man sleeps with his dreams.

To repeat for everyone: Its a tax and duty issue. The 4457 merely confirms that it was in your possession before you left the country and that therefore taxes and duty were paid - when you or the previous owner originally bought it, be it binos or camera or rifle. JPK Free 500grains

JPK you are cirrect. We must acknowledge that the Customs Officers are one of our first lines of defense against terrorisim, and illegal smuggling. I treat them with respect..., However since I break no laws, I expect to be treated with respect as well. So far on my returns to the USA they have been professional and friendly. They have a job to do... But I will not tolerate an asshole. However, I recommend, be polite on "first contact", usually that is all it takes. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Back to topic... As of last April/May, entry to RSA and return to US, the form was valid. The Customs agent who issued it to me said it would remain valid for all the items on the list, and I didn't need to take everything with me on that particular form (they don't need to match one-for-one, but I have to have all the guns on the form). As for the computer check -- they will check to see if the firearms were stolen. This was checked multiple times -- in RSA a few times, In the US leaving and coming. Each check was recorded as a part of the firearms' records. The records of the checks were cleared from the record last time through customs into the US. Dan

HMMM, a misinformed, incompetent, overbearing government employee, why would anyone be surprised. I especially love the response he gives you after you point out his error & call him on it. Maybe a chat w/ the idiot'd supervisor so he doesn't annoy the rest of us. I fly out of Atlanta & have used the same 4457 forms since 98. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!
