RussianRifle custom clearance in SA
I have hunt in Zim booked for the end of April. Initially I bought the tickets on commercial airline with Victoria Falls as a point of entry in to Zim. My PH offered to pick me up in Johannesburg on the charter plane. Guys! Who know's what are going to happened with the weapons? Do I need to clear them in SA? What do I need for that?
Thanks for help
Never buy your gun from "Hendersot's sporting goods inc."

L. David KeithFill out your SAPS form, email it to your PH and let him clear your guns at Jo'burg. If you touch them in RSA, you'll need a temporary gum importation permit. MAKE SURE your day of departure is correct (I advise a couple of days later) on your form. Better to make sure than get hit with a expired permit. You'll pay hell then $$$$

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Is it any chance to find the form on the net?

Look for it on
this page. You may need some assistance from the PH in filling it out.

L. David KeithWhen you click on the link Charles provided, you'll need to down load SAPS 520. There are 8 pages, but you'll only need part of it. General info about yourself and your firearms. MAKE SURE you get your serial numbers correct. One wrong number and uh-oh! Do this well before you go so your PH can look it over and advise you on any corrections.

Larry SellersLDK - Haven't been through JBerg for a couple of years, been going to Windhoek instead. If you overnight in JoBerg do you still have to claim your guns and luggage, go to the Afton house then recheck everything the next day. I'll be going to JoBerg then on to Biera. Thanks.

You will go to the SAPS office in the airport where the rifle cases are delivered (well, usually they are delivered there). If your PH has the paperwork ready it will be checked and then they will check it against your rifles and issue your permits. You will save time by having the paperwork and supporting documents ready ahead of time.
In the future, if you have anough lead time, you can get the permit issued in advance and then they only have to check your guns against the permit.
Havign someone there who is familiar with the process and the personnel can speed things up.
I have only been through it once so am not an expert.
There are a number of services that can assist you with the permit if your PH is not familiar with the process. I used
Riflepermits.Com. Even if you do not use them, they have a
map on their website that may be useful as well as some details about the process.
Good luck on your trip.

L. David KeithLarry,
You have two choices (that I am aware of). #1.You can check your guns and lugguge through to Biera. With luck, they will arrive with you. #2.You check your guns with the SAPS in Jo'burg, and take them with you to Afton House (or your choice of hotel) overnight, then leave the next day to Biera. You must make 100% sure your SAPS permit has the correct departure date on it. A favorite trick is to change the date to a day or two BEFORE you depart. Now you've violated the law and your permit has expired. You must now pay $200-$500 to the Children's Drink Fund. The Officer in front of you will see the money gets into the right hands. (and I have a 21 day Lion, Leopard and T-Rex Hunt for $2,000 for sale)

Larry SellersLDK - Thanks for the info. I don't mind staying overnight at the Afton House, or somewhere else, it's actually kinda nice to have a break, shower and a couple of good meals. It's the checking/rechecking in of the firearms that I would like to avoid. When going to Windhoek through Frankfurt I always check the guns/bags all the way through to Windhoek. Didn't know this might be a possibility when traveling USA/JoBerg/Biera. Not going until 09 so will have time research it some. Doing the Windhoek thing again three weeks from today. Thanks again.
