Folks,

I've been doing some research to see if DSC convention has a real chance of being held in Feb. It seems the current restrictions on gathering numbers in Dallas will not accommodate it.

What do you Texans know about this?

I’m afraid you’re probably right. Ironically, I texted Alan Vincent today on WhatsApp to ask if he was planning to attend DSC.

Dallas County hit the threshold last Thursday that rolled back restaurant capacity to 50% from 75%. The threshold is related to hospitalizations. We have been averaging around 1,750 new cases per day in Dallas County alone.

I just don’t see it happening, but it will be much different than before. It will require cutting off some exhibitors and limited attendees. I’m sure many international outfitters have a pretty full 2021 calendar from spill over.

I would love to see it happen if it can. E done safely. Then again, I’m less than 5 miles from the convention center.

Sure hope it does but I haven't been optimistic for a while. I talked to a few Zim buddies last week and they may still make it over and see some clients. Real bummer not getting to see all my Zim friends but health is priority.

Hats off to the DSC volunteer team, I know they're constantly working to do anything and everything to make it happen. Keep it up folks, we're pulling for you always.

Which reminds me...everyone remember DSC in your year end charitable giving.

Not that I have any inside information, but December events are being canceled. I would not be surprised to see it pushed off to April.

I have taken a pass for 2021 for the shows we attend and decided to spend more time and money on online marketing. Even if they go-ahead I don't think it will be much fun! People are nervous to socialize with their grandmother are they going to hug their favorite covid free PH from timbuktoo! Or try and get a beer 4 deep at the sports bar at the Omini!

I don't feel it.

Funny you should say such a thing.

I was just chatting with some friends from South Africa and their "VISA" to come to the USA have not been approved and it was not looking promising.

They sent me a message on the auctions items as they have one to bid for. I let them know that I had received the DSC e mail on the auctions items and had been looking it over and getting set up to bid on line.

We covered many topics of interest and just caught up on what both of us were doing. Really not much happening on either end. They are always at the DSC convention and this year was a bust for them. they are squeaking by, however hoping for a better 2021.

What happen both sides of the pond has been life changing for many this year. And we both hope that the world will become more friendly for travel in 2021.

They are having the NFR rodeo there as we speak. I have faith Texans will get it done.

The problems aren't the Texans, per se.

Its all the foreigners having to come from all over the world......and go back home!

The NFR is in Arlington, which is in Tarrant County. Tarrant is seeing a spike in numbers also, but it is being held in a semi outdoor baseball park.

The Dallas County protocols are determined by County Judge Clay Jenkins. It’s hard to explain the power structure, but he has the authority. He and Obama were/are buddies. However, the convention center is owned/run by the City of Dallas.

It will be interesting, as I’m sure the revenue will be wanted and needed.

Karl,

Hope to see you there. Booked my hotel reservations last week, but this year, unlike last year, I can cancel up until the day before. Hope that doesn't happen.

2021 DSC Convention Update

Dear Exhibitors,

Throughout the year, DSC has been in constant contact with the City of Dallas, Convention Center, and contract hotels working toward a safe and productive 2021 DSC Convention.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to march forward, we just learned that the City of Dallas is not allowing the DSC Convention to occur as an in-person event based on the recommendation of the County Health Authority. We have done everything that we can and are deeply disappointed but must adhere to the City’s decision.

However, the 2021 Reflections Convention will continue as a modified, virtual event online. Additional details about this event will be forthcoming soon. In the meantime, know that DSC will ensure member access to you through an online Convention landing page, social media updates, live auction video feed, watch parties, silent auction bidding site and many other innovative ways. So please keep February 11-14 on your radar.

Exhibitors still active on the roster will have their funds rolled to 2022, and those who are donors will benefit from double support credits on the net proceeds of their donation. This will apply to all donations auctioned for 2021.

Exhibitors who have already purchased banquet tickets will receive a refund.

Additionally, DSC will be working with Connections Housing and our partner hotels to cancel all hotel reservations on your behalf, but bookings made through other vendors should be resolved directly by you.

More information is coming, but we wanted to provide you with as much notice as possible to this change.

Thank you for being a great partner. We sincerely appreciate your support!

Karl,

Please let us know how this virtual thing will work. Main reason I go to the convention is to socialize with old friends and finalize arrangements for the next safari. Still need to do the latter as I'm booked for next August. Thanks.

Darn, that's two years in a row I've missed it.

Breaking news - DSC 2021 event cancelled

The Dallas safari club 2021 convention has been cancelled and replaced by a virtual event. it does look like virtual events might just become the new norm of marketing in the future, let's follow that one very closely and see what support DSC will get. Smiler

While disappointing, it is totally understandable.

Personally, I struggle with the concept of a virtual show. It will be interesting to see.

Weatherby 2021 Gala Cancellation

Weatherby Foundation regrets to announce that the City of Dallas, based on the recommendation of the County Health Authority, has informed us we will not be able to hold our February 2021 Gala. Weatherby Foundation has been proudly holding an annual Gala for 64 consecutive years to celebrate and honor each year's Weatherby Hunting and Conservation Award winner, as well as to raise money for supporting our mission. Because of you, Weatherby Foundation has been able to grant in excess of $1M over the past 5 years to organizations that support our mission “to educate youth and the non-hunting public on the beneficial role of ethical sport hunting and its contribution to wildlife conservation, and to protect our constitutional right to do so”. We are so very appreciative of each and every one of you for your support during these difficult and uncertain times.

We would also like to publicly extend our appreciation and support to our partner, Dallas Safari Club, for their diligence in navigating through this unprecedented situation. We look forward to our long-term relationship, and to the 2022 Weatherby Gala and Dallas Safari Club Convention.

Banquet Tickets:
For those of you who have already purchased tickets to the Gala, there are two options:
Apply those funds as a 501(c)(3) charitable donation to Weatherby Foundation so that we may continue to sustain our grants program in 2021, and support the many organizations we have been able to assist over the years. Since our annual Gala is our primary source of income each year, we hope you will be willing to continue to support Weatherby Foundation and convert your tickets to a fully tax deductible donation;
Request a refund, which we will process in a timely manner.

Hotel Rooms:
All reservations made through us for the Omni Dallas Hotel will be automatically cancelled. This email will serve as your official hotel room cancellation notice. There is no penalty for this cancellation, and - since no deposit has been taken by the hotel - no refund is due.

Please contact Kameron Bybee at 480.648.7607 or kameron@weatherbyfoundation.com with any questions and to let her know how you would like to move forward with your ticket purchase.

Please put us on your calendar for January 5, 2022! Rest assured, our 2022 Gala will be back and as amazing as ever!
