Have settled on a September muskox/wolf hunt on Victoria Island.

Have found that the cost is far less than Greenland and one may bring what you need home without heavy duty extra costs.

Has anyone out ther been to Victoria Island on a similar hunt that would care to share their experience? Especially transport of rifle on the Quad bikes. Caliber and type of rifle used?

Thanks in advance.

I did a Musk Ox-Caribou hunt out of Cambridge Bay in September of 2000. We didn't actually hunt on Victoria Island, but down along the Ellice River and some of the islands between Victoria Island and the river mouth.

We did not use quads, but hunting on Victoria you will. From what I have experienced over the years on various hunts where quads were used a good padded case should be fine. As for caliber I used a .375 H&H, but that really is not necessary any of the .30 mags/.338 or similar should work fine if you can place your shot where you want it.

Best of Luck it is quite an adventure.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a lot of good advice. The people are really great to deal with. We sadly have no experience on quads but many miles on big bikes. I was interested how different folks kept their rifles and scopes safe. Been to Africa several times but never north.

when I went, only Inuit could shoot wolves, you might double check if you can bring trophy home. If you hunt with the natives you might not need a case as you could be shooting from the back of the quad at speed, or at the moment he turns to hold his ground. that is how they hunt sometimes. 222 or 243, their favorite seal guns are what they use for musk ox. A big one is 600 pounds, and shots are not usually far. Have water tight bag for cape and head, extra cooler to bring back meat and don't load anything over 50 pounds if possible on the way out, or they might make you ship it cargo. saw it happen to someone else.

Under all the hair they are a small animal, not unlike the black wildabeest.
