My PH friend jumbo moore is in the process of getting a huge concession in the northern mozembique. I'm scheduled to hunt elephant in zim with him this spring, but could possibly switch to his new area. He's got lots of things there that I really need. (has 6 lion permits if anyone's interested) anyway my question is on importing from the mozembique, are elephants importable??

If he has export permits, the Elephant are importable into Canada, Mexico UK etc. Mozambique does not issue too many export permits.

Elephant are not importable into the US from Mozambique even if he does have export permits.

thanks for the answer. I can'g tell you too much about the export permits etc. yet. It's still to new. but it sounds like a hell of an area. Something like 1,000,000 acres in the middle of nowhere. 80 miles from tanzania and borders the niassa game reserve on the west. guess I'll keep my ele hunt and go there next year

I think there are big Elephant there (in that area of Moz.)

There is a move to legalize the importation on ivory from Moz. When and if are the key questions.

I book for Johan Calitz in about that same area, perhaps Jumbo is actually hunting on Johans concession I don't know but it is a great area for elephant and Lion and they have some real big tuskers in that area, and near a 100 lbs is not unheard of...They are working on importation to the states and it may come about sooner than some think, but again its Africa so who knows...

.......Don't hold your breath. I spoke to the US F&WS a week or two ago and was told they have no intention of changing their stance (in the foreseeable future) of refusing to issue import licences for Mozambican ivory.

Two elephants were taken on the concession we use earlier this year, that went over 80lbs a side (I seem to remember the heaviest tusk was 88 lbs) and at least one over 100lbs was seen. I also get an idea there was one over the hundred taken on the next concession.........but as I've said before, it's tough hunting.
