Hello Everyone

Just got back from Moz, at last

Had a great start up season, and walked miles of moz chasing buffalo,

unfortunately they are as skiitish as hell and not as many as I would have wished too eb there,

But the croc's and Hippo are enormous, Sable great , as well as kudu, impala, Sharpes Grysbok, warthog, bushpig etc.

Elephants a plenty, saw some nice bulls but client said no too 55 plus bull, and never saw bigger again, thta is why it is hunting I suppose,
There is some pictures on the link of SA and Moz 2007

We operate on the South Side of Cahorra Bassa, in Between Moz Safaris and Africa Hunt Safaris, concession is 890000 acres with elephant, hippo, croc, lion, sable, roan, kudu, zebra, impala, warthhog, bush pig, sharpes grysbok, and buffalo & lion in quota.

We have taken huge croc, hippo, two bloddy nice sables and a big old tom leopard this year ,

I am one of those that believes the hunt is what counts no the measure tape, so I hane not even measured that impala, client was happy , i am happy, easy

Those crocs are really big. I have thought about a hippo/croc hunt in Moz and will be in Pemba next summer for a bit of work.

Turned down a 55# ele you say...I wouldn't.

Email to you...of course, I'm 11 hours behind you.

Is your camp accessible by truck or do your clients need to charter an airplane? Can you provide the lat/long coordinates of your camp?
How many days do you recommend for a satisfactory hunt, I am interested in 2 Buffalo and Sable.

same question- do you have to fly into camp and if so from where to where and about how much? also daily rates, trophy fees for sable, croc, hippo and buff. i flatly refuse to spend my money in Tz. where the government changes the regulations without regard to law( so much for 9 months notice of fee increases to stakeholders!!!!)

Well done Walter... some excellent trophies! Look forward to hearing more about the concession.

OK Firstly, hello Russel, Yeah we have a lot too chat about, I will be in town sometime in Jan , looking forward too seeing you again.

The concession lies on the South side of Caharro Bassa Lake, in North West Mozambique,

My eastern border is the road from Macumburra too Magoe, and the Msengezi river in the West,

Camp coords are as follows<31.351941,-15.730944,336.584839</coordinates>

OK I tried too copy it from google map, hope it works,

The hunting is very physical, and challenging , we had a really great hunt just about everyday, the winds were not in our favour as the wind kept on swirling the whole time, this was my first season their the whole time, so a lot of lessons were learnt, and hopefully will be remebered next year.

The crocs that were taken were 15,14 and 13 feet, the previous season under a friend who was acting as PH then , a 16, 15 10, and 13 footer were taken and the 10 was specified as the clients flat was too small.

The hippos were also really good and one even had the teeth protrude throught hte top side next to the nostrils,

this area as was told too me has not been hunted very hard, which I found too be a crock of pissers, the neighbours had sub leased and whacked them I think, the buffalo are very skittish, and when spooked will go 35 km no delay at all,

We have seen and collected two very nice sables , and the resident sables are in good nick I think, next year will be good on sables again, one client missed 3 times on sable so oppurtunities were there, but the mopane is so thick , it is scary.

Leopard is in my opinion our next best export, we have loads of leopard movement, and had 3 baits being hit at one stage, but the bastard poachers have snares round most waterholes, the cats just walk the line and pick up the snares,

We did get a nice tom last week on day 2, and I know the client that spent 14 days in a blind 2 weeks before is going too piss himself when he sees the photos, but we tried everythinhg that cat just would not come in then,

2 days later same blind, 2 more cam in a big tom, and a female on honeymoon, cam 10 feet past the blind absolutely marvelous.

Elephant are fairly plentifull, and I have seen a couple of bulls over 50, and one maybe 65, so they are there, this year we did not have adedicated elephant hunt, with all the days involved but next year I will think we will get nice trophies for the guys that booked. it will just be hard work from day one

On Friday afternoon whilst fishing for Tigerfish, we had a herd of 18 kudu bulls step ouit on the flood plain, man what a sight, I forgot about fishing and just nuked them with the binos.

Bushbuck, warthog, Sharpes Grysbok, Wartoh are all there as well as some bloody big baboons as targets of oppurtunty

Lion is on quota, and we have seen a couple of young nomads looking for territory, I did not want too hunt lion this year but have plans too add one next year, the fishing village has lost a couple of cows and goats and the complaints are coming in.

Will send some more info if requested

Thanks for the interest guys

Oh forgot too mention

In this year we have removed 43 muzzleloaders from villagers, caught 17 poachers and confiscated 417 snares,

We have a full time anti poaching program an educational program too the villagers, I CAN ONLY PRAY THAT IT WILL WORK

OK let me try and answer more queries, I am a slow typer so be patient and as I just got home after being away most of the year , the Boss, says I need to get some stuff done at the house as well ? Go figure work my butt of the whole year and get back and back too work again. Women !!!

The camp is acessible by very bad roads, from Tete too camp is 314 Km , about 8 hours drive,

My clients this year worked great as follows,

Fly commercial into JHB, sleep over at AIRPORT INTERCONTINENTAL, fly commercial too Harare.

The great Callista at CATS , then arranged fo you too be picked up and dropped at Macumburra Border Post Strip where yours truly hopefully awaits your arrival, take you through the borders and off too camp, 3 hours drive away.

Charter costs this year 1 pax USD 580 one way, the more people the less per person of course as the price is per aircraft.

Charter flights in Moz are expensive and I have not found it attractive too fly in Clients via Maputo at all,

Thank you Walter,
It sounds like you have found a bit of paradise. I wish you luck in your dealings with the poaching. Do you plan on visiting the USA this year?
