Gayne Young and i met with John Dugmore this morning so Gayne could interview him - John has been a great friend of Safari Classics and always generous with his knowledge, stories, footage and pictures many of which Dave has helped him convert to digital.. .. long gone are the days (in the 50s) when guys like him would shoot a 100 pounder simply to sell the tusks to pay school fees .... an interesting point i thought about is that here in bots or tanzania a PH will earn 250-300 per day for 15 days to hunt an elephant - thats 3750 to 4500 income per elephant that would cover a term of school fees at a top private school in africa...maybe times arent so different !! It was an interesting few hours listening to him reminiscing about old times and showing us his footage of elephant hunting in northern kenya with camels and mobile camps .... John is a gentleman of the first degree. I have spent much time in his company, and always feel honored to just be around what I consider to be a truly great man. You talk about a "been there-done that" guy, he is it in flesh and blood. It is really an honor to call John a friend. I hope you sent him my best Ivan! Dave Fulson | |||
