loucfirMozambique or Bust
Yesterday, July 31st 2007...Now that will be remembered as a highlight day of my life. My hunting partner called and had some disturbing news relating to his wife and that she was not able to go to Mozambique with him on September 1st..now that is just 30 days away comma quote."Do you think you could make arraingments to go and I will contact the PH to get the ball rolling." "Heck, I damn near fainted!" Yes we went to RSA last year but I had a full year to gear up and on that trip I had packed fifteen times thirty days in advance, what's a boy to do?
Well, we're hunting with JP Kleinhans in the Mahimba Concession, so there is a little off my mind. He does run a great operation and I was told he has a butt load of Buffalo on this operation.
My shoulder has healed up, so,so since I dislocated it off my sturnum last season but that's a long story. The doc told me not to shoot again off the right side, like that is going to happen! I guess I need to get to the range ASAP and feel it out...maybe a 22 or something like that to start...ouch! The trusty 375 will soon follow!
Well today begins a whole lot of hurry..customs registration, pictures, letters, doctor...
it's 4AM and I can't sleep, this is a blast.
Any help welcome at this point, monetary donations accepted but not expected!... and his wife, oh I don't remember what he said after ,"Do you think you can go?"

yukon deltaThat's a great way to start any day. You're not expecting sympathy are you?

This is your 2nd trip? It would be great to share camp with a good friend like that.
Watch that shoulder. Too much damage and you won't be shooting anything.

L. David KeithI would heed YD's advice and protect your shoulder. Use a shoulder pad, or maybe two of them. Good hunting, David

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Ramrodloucfir - I hunted with J.P. two months ago on his ranch in the Eastern Cape and had one of the best times I've ever had in Africa. He is a lot of fun and a fine PH. I am booked with him for Mahimba next year for Buff/Croc. I know four people that have hunted with him there and they tell me you see up to 250 Buff per day. Please give us a report of your hunt when you return. Good Hunting. Mike

loucfirOkay, we got the air transportation taken care of and all the paper work is ready to send off tomorrow. My buddy, let's call him Tim, is going to make me a sissy pad..he's the reason the shoulder is bad in the first place, and has all the details worked out for the trip.
I'm in seventh heaven! All he did all day was feed me full of stories, shot placement, false charges and how those black bastards can appear and fade in seconds....may take a few "Depends!"
Tomorrow I'll check the CDC to see if I need anything special, update my Medjet, at my age who knows, and go to the bank...oh I almost forgot that part in all the excitement...
I will take plenty of pictures and write what occures...last year I only clicked off a few pictures feeling like those guys flipping the shudders were more like Japaneese tourists than hunters...big mistake! I had to ask them for pictures when I got home. Someone said to take a small notebook and write in the evenings...glad I have friends who took copious notes on what happened...to hear me tell a story," That Zebra was at a full charge when I winged him!" Oh and to clear the air, I went out after dinner and blasted the cannon...."Tim, I need that pad, now."
