Anti-hunters out number hunters something like 10,000 to 1. They spend about $100,000 to $1 on lobbying.

The ONLY way to fight ANTI's is to quit taking the the "505 Gibbs Path" and start embracing science-based conservation.

If you put the scientists squarely on the side of hunters...coming out and stating that hunting based conservation is "best-practice" conservation...you take the teeth away from the ANTI's. Politicians like money. They are going to follow the money. But the one thing they like more than money is to not look totally stupid. If they go against science...they look totally stupid.

Hate to say it, but be thankful they only spend it on lobbying. It could be worse....trust me.

Agreed...but it is the best chance we have. And doing nothing is certainly not going to prevail.

But...in the USA...we have to correct our governmental trend before we can ever hope to correct the "anti-hunting " situation.

Just look at the new Secretary of the Interior...and just think...she will ultimately decide the fate of the African Lion.

I just read this on the TIME mobile app. Glad something positive is being portrayed to the general public. The fact that the opposing party in the article can call the hunt nothing more than "perverse" speaks volumes about their education on the subject of the rhino and other species in similar situations (lions). I hope some people start to see the science behind modern hunting because of this hunt.

Peter,

What bothered me were the knee jerk comments posted after the article. Clueless and slightly nuts.

Jeff,
You just described at least 49% of the US population and it's growing every day.

Not to mention the fact that "the ability to be educated" is rapidly being bred OUT of them.

Sad part is that the most outspoken ( liberal ) politicians and anti's always talk about being objective and then they throw objectiveness out of the window if it doesn't fit their agenda and their needs.
Like any other short minded person
The only way to object to them is to fight them on every front, tooth and nail, email, tweet, newspapers, meetings ... And call them on everything they said.
Yes, make them look stupid. Every politician hates to feel looking stupid in front of the audience.

I am no sure about concern over looking stupid. Being from Florida, how do you explain Alan Grayson? He seems to relish in it.

Folks, I've been living outside the US for 22 years now, and honestly, the press I'm seeing on this DSC auction is FAR more neutral or even downright positive than I ever expected, given the usual anti-hunting clamor that we normally see from the uneducated.

For once, the media seem to be getting it. Go figure.

Anti-hunters care nothing about science based facts and realities of using hunting in game management. They only care about stopping hunting anyway they can through lies, deceit and crookedness. The ends justify the means.

I agree 100%...but that is not the the point. Anti's are gonna be Anti...no matter what. But...the officials that make the rules (at least in the states) are usually nudged at least by scientific fact.

Lane,

I agree that science must rule the day and generally does. If that were the case though why is our country(USA) is sliding into the abyss? I posted the article which I considered accurate and fair just so everyone can view the vitriolic knee jerk reactionary bullshit comments to give folks an idea of the level of ignorance we are up against.

Hi Jeff,
I am in full agreement with you...USA is sliding down hill like a snowball headed for hell. And being scientifically correct does not fix everything by any means. But...staying true to science and fact is all we have left on our side.

Our country chuck-full of idiots with knee-jerk reaction (about 49% full to be exact)...you are 100% correct there!
