Maybe this should have been posted in the handgun section, but I posted it here because I thought those with most African experence would be here. After trying to review importation laws and rules of some African countries I have become somewhat confused. Example: In RSA it says handguns came be used for hunting only, no problem with that, however in restricted gun section it says no semi-autos. My question is does that mean I can not use my 44 Automag. Yes I know it is a semi-auto, but my confuseion is after watching OLN I saw a show sponsered by Benelli using their new semi-auto rifle on various plains game in RSA.
Am I avid handgun hunter and though I have other guns to fit the bill would like to use the AMP on medium plains game.
Thanks

David- The SA regulation have undergone some radical changes recently. The way the law is now is that NO semi auto handguns of any kind are allowed. Also, no double action revolvers. A handgun must be "custom made for hunting" meaning it must be a single shot, single action revolver or bolt action. Also, the gun must have a scope on it. If you are seriously considering handgun hunting SA, it would be to your benifit to use a company like Air2000, or similar. I hunted SA with handguns in 04, and the regs have gotten alot stricter. Good Luck!!

David,
I believe the OLN show you saw was filmed on Namibia not South Africa. I do not believe SA allows semi auto rifles or pistols to be brought into the country.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Tembo, I have a Freedom Arms 50 AE and a XP100 in 7-08 that will work. I just wanted to use my AMP, I have alot invested in it and have been playing around with a new load for it. I pulled some Hornady 265 grain 444 Leverevolution bullets and loaded them in my AMP. Kind of expensive way to try them out, but they seemed cut trajectory down enough to make them worth while at longer ranges.
Again thanks for the info.

Well- Africa. I an traveling to South Africa for the first leg of the SA champs. Shooting my revolver as usual ( a smith 629) all tha other lads shoot .40 S&W's out of Para ordinance or STI pistols (except the chairman who has a .45 - he is an American). All that is required is a letter from the club saying the handgun is for sporting purposes.
