I have several Model 77's, and really like them. I took a .300 Win. Mag. to Africa for plains game and it performed perfectly. The only things done to mine were a new Timney trigger and glass bedded; these two things done to a Ruger make them world-class hunting rifles.

I love that Ruger 77 Safari model with the quarter ribs..I see them in 270 and 06 on Guns America for about $850. and they have been discontinued, so they will definatly become a collectors item and increase in value...I have a very highly modified Ruger M-77 in 30-06 that I have owned for many years..It has been modified to control feed, M-70 safty and customized factory stock...All that comes with the new ones!......

Called my dealer today and he said that the 77s are available with irons. I am seriously considering getting one but cant decide between an 06 or a 270win. I dont need a .338 with a .375 so it comes down to one of these two. I have never owned a .270 so I dont know how it would preform compared to an 06 on plains game. Anybody have any experience with a .270 on plains game? I know the 06 will work but the .270 shoots flatter it just dosnt have the frontal diameter....

You know I always wanted a 77. I admired their good looks and having owned other Rugers I know their strength. I have one Ruger I still use that I bought in 1969. About the only reason I never bought a 77 is I never liked the integral scope mounts. Evidently, you guys seem to have no problem with this set up???
