10generationIrridium or Immarsat for south and east africa?
Looking at getting a phone, have heard from Explorer Satellite that immersat might be best bet for southern africa.
Anyone made this decision?

larryshoresI have both. In Southern Africa, the Inmarsat has worked best for me. I did not use it in East Africa. However, I have received a number of calls from someone using one in TZ. The quality was outstanding.

Tim HeraldI have both and I think the Imarsat works better in Africa. The Iridium is better for worldwide...

larryshoresTim has a point. My Inmarsat is useless above the Arctic Circle. The Iridium is great.

ledvmAndy sold Nigel Theisen and I on Inmarsat. We bought 2...one to replace Nigel's old Iridium in Africa and one for me to travel with. So far...so good!

10generationThanks guys - sounds like Immarsat is way to go. I don't want to go to the poles, so that is good news :-)
