Looks like we're going to Ghana sometime in 2006 to visit some good friends transfering there. Though they do not hunt, I can't imagine traveling that far without doing some "stomping in the bush". I would appreciate any experience you have re: hunting in Ghana, Togo, Benin area. My wife is bi-lingual, French/English, but I am typical American... english only Thanks, and Safe Hunting Clint

The new issue of the African Sporting Gazette has an article by Peter Flack on hunting Benin for buffalo. Pretty interesting. Personally I think I would try Burkina Faso or Cameroon though. Both countries are considerably larger. I've done Cameroon and would go back there in a heartbeat. Mac

Southpaw, Although I haven't hunted in the mentioned countries, I have spent a bit of time in them. First of all, they are all interesting countries! And even if you don't get to hunt (which would be in the dryer north), the southern parts have amazing rainforests which are worth stomping around in. If you go to our trip website: www.dunia.no and click on the "Diary" button, you can then scroll down to the countrys you mentioned where you can see both pictures and read a bit about what's to see. The nice thing about this area is that the countrys are so small, that it doesn't take ages to get around. I would advise that you get up north into the countrys and not just stay near the coast. I would also advise that you get a map that is more detailed than the much used Michelin West Africa one. The Michelin only shows the main roads, while the one made by IGN in france has many of the small dirt roads that go to interesting places. While you're in Lom, Togo, you have to go to a restaurant named "Marox". Probably the best food in west africa, and better German food such as "Eisbein" than you'll even get in Germany! And not too expensive either. At least we enjoyed it after being on the road for some months! There's a monastary near Apeyeme that you can stay in for a night or two if you pass that way which is quite an interesting experiance. With monks and all! If so, say hello to Father Martin from us! Well, instead of writing everything over again, just go to the website! This is a region that we definatly would like to visit again. And btw, it's very safe compaired to many of the nabouring countrys. Enjoy it while you're there! Erik D. Ps. When it comes to hunting, I think Harald Wolf of "Hatari Times" has a link to a place in Benin on his website: Hatari Times

Erik, Wow, wonderful trip. I will read and get to specific questions later. Thanks for responding to the post. Though we're really into the hunting, what you've done would be an ultimate trip. I hope I can get my Camille on line with your Catherine at some point so they may share women's views. Safe Hunting Clint
