Mr. Willi, Shaun is the personification of the Professional Hunter that one reads about in works such as Ruark's. It was my great fortune to hunt with Shaun while he was gaining plenty of experience as an appy under Buzz Charlton. Shaun is an outstanding hunter and one of the very best gentlemen that I've had the pleasure to meet. I very much hope to be able to hunt with Shaun again.

Willi I have not hired Shaun Buffee of Acacia Safaris as a PH, but as a videocameraman when he was still doing his apprenticeship. I organised him myself to accompany me with a different outfitter to film an elephant cow hunt (ended up two) and cape buffalo if possible (missed out on them). Shaun is very easy to get on with, is actually a really nice young guy, works hard and is concientious. Basically he acted as an appy PH on my hunt, even though he was effectively a guest when not filming. So he would have got "top marks" from both me the client AND the third party outfitter/PH at least one hopes so. Even though he took a back seat to the PH I did observe him and his hunting knowledge, skills with the trackers seemed pretty much on par. As an appy PH, due to his video filming work he probably has just as more close in dangerous game experience than other PH even a lot of older PHs. For my two elephants, he was right behind me filming over my shoulder for the first in thick jess at close range to the ele, and for the second ele similar. For the first ele he asked me to step right out into the centre of the "open" (it appeared open at the time but not later) lane in front of the elephant, so he could step in behind me to film over my shoulder. Of course this caused the elephant to immediately flare out and face us head on. I think it takes guts to rely on a total stranger (ie the client) in those circumstances when all one is carrying himself is a videocamera. The PH was there too of course but a few steps away. If he offers you a deal you like, go for it. PS You will find a number of persons on this website have had dealings with Shaun, as he was also recommended to me from here.

I met Shaun in the Zambezi a couple years ago and found him to be a gentleman that I would have no problem hunting with. ozhunter
