I watched a few minutes of it 'on and off' (wife had the remote) - It was a load of bull dung.

"was the wounded buffalo stalking a specific hunter? did her long reddish blond hair make her resemble a lion? Does National Geographic belive people are that stupid?"

4 legs good. 2 legs bad....

uggh!

I watched a bit of the following program on Baboons - specifically the baboon that attacked the baby in the NP and the folks that were attacked in the Cape, by the beach - I heard this was a bigh problem, but I have an 18" 12 ga that says PROBLEM SOLVED.

When I had kids I wanted them to be able to do as I did when I was a child, spend hours and hours reading NG magazine. I let the subscription expire. It just wasn't the same, not what I grew up on. NG definitely have their heads up their ass. Their PC philosophy drives it and what they have become is too lofty. Once when discussing with a well read and learned friend, also father, what encyclopedia was currently the best, I mentioned that I grew up with World Book but was considering Britannica for my kids. He coined the phrase then "Britannica is too lofty and kids as well as adult don't connect". He was right. World Book is still the best and National Geographic is gone.

NG is now a product of their own agenda. But...there WERE some NICE BULLS in the show!

They had a feature on the baboons in the table mountain that was creating havoc and apparantely the reason why they don't destroy them is because they have unique genes or something and would be the last of the baboons running in the mountains since the settlers arrived.

I think it's a bunch of crap, good idea to make them fear humans by shooting them. And if we need to replace them with other baboons there is plenty of them around. The parliament resides in Cape town anyway.

Getting a little off base here but the 1929 edition of Britannica is the best (if you can get a hold of one), - before they started to go PC. Besides, most of mankind's greatest achievements happened before 1929 anyway.

I don't think the information or "theories" presented were at all new or unusual. We all know Buff are smart. We all know they "hunt" what has aggravated them. We all know they are dangerous.

That being said, the tone of the show was much overdone. Quite aimed at being sensational. If I watch it again (it's on TiVo), I'll turn the sound off.

I was flipping between this and the Ohio-Florida State Game...at times both were hard to watch!

Seriously, it WAS neat to see Keith and Nikki on a non-hunting channel. I'll try to catch it again when it airs.

Reg The National Geographic Channel - I am and have been very disappointed in their programming. I expected it to be loaded with quality documentaries, but instead most of the prime time stuff at least is sensationalism designed to appeal to a large audience of what would have to be simple-minded couch-potatoes. Or the same tired show over-and-over again. Every now and again a good one comes on, which is why I check it whenever I am surfing, but it is rare anymore.

Same thing can be said of the programming on "Versus"â€¦becoming much more mainstream as they abandon the niche market(s). Primetime recently has been hocky, boxing, etcâ€¦I am sure there are people very pleased with this (as I am when they cover the Tour de France) but they really seem to be all over the place. The shows we like (such as Tracks Across Africa and The Safari Hunters Journal) have been relegated to crappy timeslots.

I feel better now!

This program exemplifies why I canceled my subscription to NG after 25 years; lies, exaggerations, speculations, and the worst sin of all, attributing human emotion/motivation to animals (buffalos).
Did anyone notice the hunting "sticks" used? Literally, tree branches held together with twine. My God! Absolutely shameless! Sickening!

And, lastly, Nikki is much better looking than the crap actress who played her.

I think you guys are way too critical.

Sure, it was melodramatic, but it also conveyed a lot of accurate information. And the buff photography alone was terrific.

In any case, programs like this one sure beat nearly everything else on the idiot box these days.

I just took it with a grain of salt and managed, somehow, to enjoy it.

I think some of you missed the point: NG was trying to help us. By making the tree huggers believe that Daggaboyz are psycho-killers that go around stomping and maiming everything that walks, the peta-cheez crowd will think we're doing the world a service by hunting MR IMBOGO. My wife was harrassed/attacked by a baboon at the Cape of Good Hope. The baboon climbed through the window of the car (she and my godparents were in it). It basically sat in her lap and opened it's mouth super wide and hissed at her. Everyone piled out and got into some other groups van for protection. It tried opening the door of the van (while still sitting on top). I was hiking at the time...they should be shot or atleast have the fear of God put in them by shooting at them on a regular basis.

I don't know about you, but I am scared s*itless! At least fifty other Buff witnessed me gun down one of their buddies in cold blood and ruthlessly give him the "coup de grace" from three feet away! Now NG says they are smart enough to come after their tormentors... can Cape Buff get passports? will I spend the rest of my existence constantly looking over my shoulder for my buffs third cousin-twice removed to come and settle up? Will I piss myself everytime I spot something big in a black leather jacket? Oh hell! now they tell me that the 777 ranch, which is only about 120 miles away has a Cape Buff.... were they related ? If it comes and gets me, will they rename it the 666 Ranch?
Where the Hell did I put my double rifle, and what are they going to say at work when I start carrying it? My life is ruined!!!

Bloody HELL!

I did not sleep a wink last night after reading this, as I am sure several thousand buffalo must have seen me shoot a few of their kind.

I put the 3 mounted lions I have facing my door, I hid the crocodile flat skins I have behind chairs, with their heads and mouths gaping open facing the rear door; I loaded all my heavy rifles, put some on either side of my bed, some by the foot of the bed, and my two 375/404 IN the bed with me!

My 4 year old daughter asked in the morning - "daddy, why are you keeping all these guns here in the bedroom?"

I said "Just getting ready to shoot some buffalo sweatheart"

She said "I want to shoot them when they come on the TV!"

Knowing Walter, he just might let her do that with her Chipmunk! I better hide it!
