Considering the state of affairs in Zimbabwe, is there any special language you would include, or conditions for the release of funds, for a 2009 safari? What about an agreement that the down payment be kept in trust, in a US bank account, by the agent until 30 days pror to the commencement of the safari? I typically include language that if travel is restricted or it is not safe for travel, any amounts paid will be applied as a deposit on a hunt the following year or thereafter if necessary. I also include language that no portion of the fees paid under the contract will be paid to anyone on the State Department list. I do not think an escrow arrangement is worth the trouble. Regardless of what is in the contract, I think the most important thing is to be dealing with someone that you know and trust. Mike

I've been doing the lawyering gig for close to 30 years now and if I have learned nothing else it is that a crook will rob you no matter what your contract says. With an honest man the only thing you need is enough to remind you what you agreed to. My contract with my two law partners is 2 pages long and most of that is our wives' signatures. kh
