My son sent me this photo. I have no idea where or how it came about or the history of it. Perhaps someone here knows something of it?

My rifle was not only a lowly .375H&H bolt action but was scoped AND I used shooting sticks on a tuskless at 12-13 yards.

Dropped her like a rock.

I do believe I'd rather have a sturdy bayonet than a scope at that moment Wink

I guided for awhile all the good shots were naturals at shooting off hand. All the great shots knew enough to use a rest.

Alp,

That's a terrific line!

Maybe 10 or 20 yards would be an exception but in general I'll second your motion.

that is an old pic about 4 years if my memorie serves me, i have shot one elephant that close and one other perhaps 2-3 yeards back, tht the way its done, there usuallty isnt time for stix that close unless your waiting and the elephant comes up to have a look which donsent hardly ever happen. I'm 50/50 on the that pic being real, i can make a case for both, the elephant dosent look to upset and ther are no stix so in that sense it could be real but the edges of the pic look kinda photoshopped. either way its a cool pic and the way to hunt jumbo, so i like it.

sorry about the spelling,
I missed that class.

he needs to lose the scope, thats a disaster that close even on 2.5X the elephant will look like a 747, i made that mistake once when i was a rookie. I just looked at it more and i think its 60/40 photoshoppe. eveyone looks to relaxed and when your that close things happen real fast, i mean ral fast, the elephants ears are in the wrong position and his head as well it should be a bit highter with a hunter standing that close. the hunters hat has to go too, its redicoulous.

That hunters hat works alot better than a cap to keep the sun at bay though.

It could also be taken with a telephoto lens - this will compress the distance.

A great photo, but I think Aussue is right, it is a telephoto shot.
Look at the dia of the rifle barrel and then compare to the dia of the tusks.

Looks to me that the elephant is some distance off. Would want to loose that scope in a hurry though, if I was to make that shot.
