One of my trackers in Binga in 08 had 5 wives, so maybe he could have had 5 kids on the same day. In addition to 5 wives to care for he also had 35 children. That was the hunt where they made my ax.

I think I heard about that happening here in the US with only one wife---it's called "quintuplets". Wink

I've got a lot of artifacts from Africa, and many other places. I guess the object I like is the little hand ax that the skiner used to butcher my first animal taken in Africa a very large Hippo bull. However I think the quote in my signature line, below, which is the last line in my journal on my first safari, says it all. I didn't even remember writing it till years later when I happened to pick the journal up and re-read what I had written.

My most cherished item would be my buffalo on a pedistal beside me right now. He still looks mad, so out of fear I chose him. We bonded at very close quarters (3 feet) for a moment in S.A. He is responsable for the "most alive" I have ever been for about 10 seconds. I thank him often.

Drinking a gin and tonic on the veranda of the Victoria Falls Hotel looking out over the mists to the iron bridge. Dining on eland steaks grilled over a mopane wood fire with the Southern Cross overhead. Having the tracker who was holding the sticks whisper, "Boss, BOSS, BOSS!!!" to let me know that another buff had stood up in the tall grass behind us. Yeah, the memories . . .

The six-pack of Castle lager I smuggled home (and managed not to drink). Not because I'm a such of fan of beer, but because of the memories it evokes. Each day wound down sitting by the fire with a cold Castle while rehashing the events of the particular day's hunt. Looking at those cans instantly takes me back to those evenings and what a magical place and time I was in.
