Mike BenedumI would expect nothing less from Cliff. Hunted with him in 2012 in Tanzania. He's no stranger to the big cats trying to get a taste of him. The Wounded Warrior hunts he does are even more impressive to me.

ozhunterMost hunters interested in Safari know about the benefits of getting low in such a situation HOWEVER one would need to be thinking clear at the time to put this idea into effect.
You can also see the benefit of a good pointing double!

Cliff had stopped in with some friends to do some tiger fishing on the Zambezi.
Great guy, and a lot of fun in camp.

That's not courage. It is deplorable lack of good judgment and blatant stupidity.
This ranks with the special group of free climbers who scale 3,000 foot cliff faces, those that cross the Grand Canyon on a tight rope, the braggadocio surreptitious loose screws that strung cables across from the twin towers of the World Trade Center and those that go over Niagara Falls in a barrel.
It seems that the publicity hounds were ready and able with camera to film this disingenuous event.
I just abhor such preplanned, canned, publicity seeking, spectacles.
I would have been much happier if the lion won which he obviously didn't have any chance of doing so.
Be a sportsman with common sense and security please.

Are you against filming of all hunts, they are preplanned and somewhat of a spectacle, or just filming of follow ups on Hunts? Or maybe posting/sharing of video?
What would you have done instead of what was done?

Bill, I rarely say things like this on AR anymore as I really try to be respectful of everyone - even when they say things I disagree with. But based on your two previous statements, you sir are a CLOWN of the first order!!
Only a "buffoon" as you put it would firstly claim this was staged, secondly would claim its fake, thirdly would claim this was done to "sell" something to someone (like what?) and fourth - would of course do so without any factual basis for said claim. You sir, are an idiot!!
It is in fact real, and it is in fact the PH's job to search out and finish a wounded animal - regardless of where he goes and sometimes that includes doing so in dramatic fashion, whether the PH likes it or not. Many, many hunts are filmed every year now in Africa - that's nothing new anymore. So to think it was staged, simply because a camera was on hand shows more of your lack of experience in this field. In fact, if you had a single clue as to how this clip was so quickly sent to me/others, you wouldn't be questioning the authenticity of quality. But again, don't let your lack of facts/knowledge get in the way - continue to whale on as it does wonders for your character, and of course - judgment!
The PH in question is obviously a friend of mine, and we've talked about this situation numerous times via email already. Those who know Cliff (unlike you obviously, in fact you seem to know nothing about this particular case) know for a fact the authenticity of said film, and for heavens sake man - how about supporting fellow sportsman rather than the constant denigration!! I am so sick and tired of that crap!!!!!

condoned.
I think beyond the box. What if the hunter was married with children. And the lion prevailed. The widow could possibly be plunged into dire economic circumstances. The children's dreams of a college education dashed !
If you ever get to know me better you will see that I am actually one of the most extreme advocates of hunting.
To the other posters who commented, I have to commend them for their restraint, politeness and courtesy. Quite a change from the old days.

Back in the time of the Roman Empire the Coliseum was the venue for putting Christian in the Arena and turning loose the lions.
Just curious? There were three elements, Romans, Christians and lions. Which side would all here be on ?.

That blue shirt in the video sort of turned me off. I'm sort of a traditional old guy. Pith helmet, traditional Safari Khakis, shoulder straps. It will make your videos look more professional.

HAD it been a seasoned Harry Selby , you may not have seen a fumble.
WE had some utter fool recreational hunter on AR in the past demonstrating on stationary Paper DG targets,
how many 'fractions of a second faster' .. a SxS was (vs) a bolt...
unfortunately it has ZERO relation to the pressures/variables/challenges of a real life DG charge situation,
due to all the different scenarios possible in such an event.
and I just laughed when the actual dill who did the 'paper DG target time trial' (in order to supposedly prove the superior speed of a SxS)
himself took some 13 seconds to fire his second barrel from his SxS... on real DG,
and had the PH not tapped the client on the shoulder to urge him to go forward and finish the job, it could have been much longer!
The PH that is truelly proficient with his preferred firearm of choice is the most important thing.
Whereas a novice or recreational hunter 'bragging about his faster SxS' would worry me If I had to rely on them.
