A friend of mine found a kudu cow carcass last year. He saw that something has been feeding on her and decided to put a game camera up.... This is some of the photos he got.... I tought you guys might find it interesting... Leopard female came in and started feeding still in day light She came back a bit later that same evening Then all of a sudden she disappeared... They moved off and it was not very long after they left and she was back and then she looked up and like a ghost she was gone... and these guys came back... So the question is..... Did the bush pigs chased her of the carcass of the kudu cow to get to the meat or not??? What do you think? PIGS OF ALL TYPES, BOTH DOMESTIC AND WILD, HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO EAT ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT EAT THEM FIRST. I BET THOSE BUSHPIGS WERE THERE FOR THE MEAT. IT MAY HAVE BEEN A REAL BRAWL HAD THE LEOPARD CONTESTED THE BUSHPIGS FOR KUDU.

I know of guys that uses meat as method to bait for bush pigs.... They will smell the carrion over long distances. I am sure even a big male leopard would have backed off against these 2 pigs.... Pigs eat anything and there is no reason for the leopard thats well fed to risk injury fighting with a couple of bush pigs.

Nice Pics. I've shot my biggest hog at a place where we put out some dead foxes. He was eating the foxes every night. Pigs love meat.

I second that, trail cams are very useful tools, especially for studying noctural or shy animals and they can provide some fantastic shots that you would not normally see like the ones posted here. They are generally expensive though unfortunately, and you have to set them up in an area where they won't get stolen or tampered with. I recon that the leopard slinked away when it saw that there were two pigs, but if there were piglets around she may have been very interested.

I am surprised the leopard did not drag the kudu calf up a tree to be honest, obviously not too many hyenas or lion around in that area, or maybe she is just young and inexperienced.

Interesting. Last year, while hunting in the Selous, we found a bush pig that had been killed and eaten by a leopard. Completely gutted and cleaned right out. Makes you wonder . . . Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

We have killed pigs here in Calif. in the evening that were eating off of pig gut piles from a morning hunts kill. I have seen them eating dead cattle before. Pigs will be around long after everything else is gone. They are like sharks in that they are a perfect eating machine.
