I just wanted to thank everyone who shared advice on Zimbabwe with me over the past week or so. I really appreciate the input.

I talked to Graham at HHK today and confirmed my trip. My dates are 8/25-Sept 5.
I will hunt Chirisa for buff and plainsgame and then take a couple or three days to go to Sijarira/Chete to try for a hippo.

Graham will let me know next week, but he said he hopes to be my PH. He said he has to wait until the Zimb. bass fishing tournament schedule comes out. If he has a tourney, I guess he won't be guiding me.

I am pretty excited about the trip and hope to take some nice animals. We are filming the whole thing for Limbsaver Outdoors and Outdoor Amerca, and from what everyone says, it is a beautiful area and I am also looking forward to seeing Vic Falls. Cape Buff is one of the two animals atthe very top of my life list to harvest, and I can't wait for the experience.

I have contacted Kathi about help with the air travel, and that should be the final piece of the puzzle.

I plan to hunt the buff with a .416, and Graham suggested I bring a .375 as my gun for everything else. I will have barrels made for my T/C Pro Hunter in these calibers and practice all summer.

Well...thanks again to everyone who weighed in on my questions.

Good Hunting,

Great news...you will have a great trip I am sure. My only advice is to leave the TC single shot for the plains game. Get yourself a good bolt action for the dangerous stuff!

Good luck!

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! As much as I like single shots (I have two Ruger #1's and several T/C Contenders), I agree with Roscoe. Several years ago, I sent around a video of a buffalo hunt in the Selous. On the first buffalo, I think I shot him 8 times, all eventually fatal, but the dang sucker kept getting up or stumbling along trying to get into the tall grass. The PH kept on shouting, "Good shot. Hit him again!"

Such a story is not unusual and I believe that if I had been trying to reload a single-shot, the PH would have felt it necessary to shoot (which wouldn't have caused me much heartburn, but I did go to Africa to shoot my own buffalo?)

Then there is the scenario where you encounter the buffalo at 25 yards, your first shot staggers him. He's going to die in 10 seconds or so, but he turns toward you and begins to come with no kind thought... the PH misses the brain (all this in 2.1 seconds).... and you are standing there trying to reload and remembering something you mother said about clean underwear in case you got run over or something.

If you have an agreement with T/C, have at it, but just be sure you have good "daily laundry". Eeker

As for Graham and HHK, they've done me right several times and if Graham is involved personally, you might get a free plane ride?

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Good for you Tim! Wink Enjoy your hunt. dancing

Do not let the fact that you're also filming the hunt in any way interfere with the hunt. You go and hunt, let the camera-man worry obout the filming!

Post report when back.

Thanks to everyone>>>I am stoked> Cancelled a grizzly bear hunt for this one...

I am pretty well stuck shooting the T/C on this one. They pay a lot of the bills. I love the gun, but like y'all said, I would like to have more than 1 shot quickly on a buff.

I just want to get close, place a good shot and go from there. I guess if the PH has to shoot, he will have to shoot, but I will ask him not to if he feels mine will be fatal and the buff doesn't come at us.

Andrew, I won't let the camera interefere with the hunt, but it is my job and I am committed to good footage. I won't take a shot that isn't on camera, but my cameraman/producer is a really good hunter, and I have never had a problem with him, "not getting it."

Thanks

Good Hunting,

Enjoy! Graham won't back you unless absolutely necessary, and one good shot with a .416 is all any buff needs. Watch Saeed's video's of his .375/404 on buff Wink

Tim,
I didn't realize you were getting paid by TC...I don't blame you for your choice and I doubt that you will have any problems...just not what I would choose if it were my first DG safari. Good luck and I look forward to hearing about your hunt.

Aah the true advantage of a kilt is revealed! No underwear, therefore no soiled undies if the buffalo charges ! wave

I would rather carry a bolt action repeater and wear a kilt than wear Levis and carry a T/C single shot!

Tim,

My suggestion is to use one rifle for everything - of the calibers you have mentioned both are perfectly suitable for this.

One rifle, one load, one bullet. Just make sure you pick a bullet that will stay together and penetrate.

My first choice would be one of the hollow point mono metals, or one of those with a solid shank.

I would avoid those with a partition. They do work, but I believe they do not penetrate as well as the two mentioned above.

And if you get really close to the buffalo, I suggest you brain him. This tends to put a quick end to the hunt.

Tim,

Congratulations on your upcoming hunt. You have made an excellent choice in HHK. I hunted with HHK on two safaris and you will find them top notch in everything. On both of my hunts, Graham was personally involved in seeing that the hunt went well. I hunted Charisa and took a nice buffalo. I am sure that you will have a lot to pick from as I did. I remember sitting on top of a huge kopie watching some 300 head of buffalo in one herd go by. You will find that Charisa is damn good for plains game as well.

Thanks again,

Saeed and all,

Speaking of bullets- what do you recommend. I was thinking a Swift A Frame for the .416 and really was trying to figureout what to use in the .375.

If I take both barrels, which bullet would you recommend for each, and if I just take the .375, what would you suggest. I was going the 2 barrel/gun route upon Graham's suggestion. Thanks again>>>
