Croc attack leaves fisherman dead Victoria Falls Correspondent From The Herald October 25, 2010 A fishing expedition ended in tragedy when a villager from the Siabuwa area of Binga was last Sunday attacked and killed by a crocodile in the Zambezi River. His head, left hand and ribs were discovered in the river two days after the attack. Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Trust Ndlovu said Meter Mwende was in the company of his brother Richard and another person. They were fishing using a net and waded into the Zambezi River. “At around 4:30pm as they were fishing, Meter Mwende was attacked by a crocodile that pulled him into deep water. “His brother and friend tried to rescue him, but they failed and went and called for assistance from other fishermen and villagers,” he said. Insp Ndlovu said villagers and fishermen searched for Mwende’s body but could not locate it. He said on Tuesday the fishermen recovered some of his remains in the river. “The remains discovered included the head, left hand and ribs.” A police report was made and the remains were taken for burial. “No foul play is suspected,” Insp Ndlovu said.
