http://www.huntingreport.com/w...te.cfm?articleid=762 CAR Addressing Pending CITES Suspension of Trade (posted February 29, 2016) Our story about CITES issuing CAR a 60-day warning of suspension of trade has gotten the attention of hunters, safari operators and officials in CAR. The story appears in the March issue of The Hunting Report delivered by email just this past Friday, February 26, 2016. A Hunting Report subscriber who read the story contacted Elise Duckworth of Duckworth Safaris regarding his scheduled bongo hunt and how the pending suspension would affect shipment of his trophy. Duckworth immediately contacted The Hunting Report for the full story and then contacted Mr. Ndallot Olobanda Jérémie, Directeur de la Faune et des Aires Protégées (Director of Wildlife and Protected Areas) in CAR. In an email forwarded to us, he assured Duckworth that CITES will have the missing annual reports by this afternoon. With the proper reports filed, CITES should clear CAR for the export of CITES species. Even if there is a slight delay, with CAR's effort to resolve the issue, all CITES listed species taken during any suspension should become exportable once the reports are approved and the suspension lifted. If there are no further complications, hunters going to CAR this season should have no trouble getting their trophies shipped. Our story also mentioned that Mongolia had been issued a 60-day notice. At this writing, we have no word whether authorities there are moving to fix the problem. As soon as we know anything, we will issue an email bulletin with an update. - Barbara Crown, Editor-in-Chief Get important news bulletins like this sent directly to your email 24 hours before anyone else sees them, plus unlimited access to our database of hunt reports and past articles, a special expanded electronic version of our newsletter and more!
