Together with a friend I`m planning a buffalo + some pg hunt in zimbabwe 2012.We are looking into hunting in the Forestry commision area. Because of our jobs we can either go early or late season.

Would be intresting with some advice from the more experienced hunter about this choice..

Also if someone has any experiens, god or bad from Forestry commision area.

Thanks

The only thing I can say is the longer you wait the hotter it will be. Can people from Norway stand 100(F) plus degree heat?

The only easy day is yesterday!

LHO,

Ilived in Alaska when I took most of the safaris I've been on. A Norwegian can take the heat I'm sure. PM sent.

Man, I have hunted in April for buffalo, wet, warm and humid and the bush is extremely thick. If I wanted a really good buff I would probably pick October, very hot but dry and the watering holes and springs will be a big draw. Also, the bush will be more open though dropped leaves will make noise an issue...

If I just wanted to enjoy a hunt, probably hunt herds more, a bit cooler, April would work. Find the right outfit and you will get your buff regardless!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

LHO,

They don't call Oct. and Nov. the suicide months in Africa with no reason. The heat is terrible and often there is no wind. Don't expect any relief at night either, there will likely be none.

In my first eight trips to Africa we saw nearly no snakes and a limited number of spiders, bugs and lizards. Our eighth safari was in october and we saw multiple black mambas, a puff adder or two with lots of spiders, and bugs. Prior to that trip we had gone in May thru early Sept.

Having said all of that, the time to go to Africa is, "when you can". Enjoy!

Thank you for responding to my question.

Seems like most would go for a late hunt, I am awere that the heat would maybe cause some trouble, but i would also like to see more than 30yds when I have traveled so far to hunt.

But of course its greater risk wounding a buffalo at 130yds than at 30 yds.

This is not a easy choice.

Happy fore futher advice

Lars,

Regardless of the actual hunting you'll just see more game in late season. Even in the best areas with dense game populations you won't see anywhere near the game that exists there on an early hunt. The thick cover will restrict visibility and the game will be spread out all over the concession because there will be lots of water everywhere. Humidity will be quite high early making the heat much more uncomfortable than late season when it is bone dry. october would be my pick everytime for a dedicated buff/pg safari.
