Thanks for this, George.
Another link in the chain and the end of the chain is the end of hunting as we know it. While they are wrong, there are too few of us to matter.

It was on Yahoo news yesterday.

It would be interesting to know from the critics if it were OK for a Park Ranger to cull/kill the same Giraffe and pose for a photo, for example - they ought to know that all of these creatures God created are part of a programmed culling list and just have to be dispensed with for their own good, i.e. conservation of their kind due to over-population caused by reduced space by greedy humans who have encroached on their land.

It would also be interesting to have their logical opinion if they thought it better to have it euthanized by Parks at the taxpayer's expense or to have a member of the public willing to splash megabucks to perform this heinous act and to put some value on this animal's life?

This wasn't as bad as I had expected, but I have to agree with Cal.

Most could really care less about individual animals or species. An animal dead at the hands of an evil sport hunter is worth far more to them in the way of donations than that same animal managed in any other way.

Look at Cecil. Without even really trying, Oxford got over a million bucks in donations. Why didn't IFAW just buy the bloody Namibian rhinoceros? Outrage = cash flow.

Last IRS990 form I saw, Mr Downes was being paid $1,086 a day. That all that really matters to them.

Then, factor in the ignorance. The majority of antis - those, in fact, who might really care about wildlife - haven't figured out that you can't apply First World paradigms to Third World countries.

They can't grasp the effects of habitat loss. Africa's this huge continent full of game reserves, just like Disney says. The effect of it's population doubling in the next three decades is just something they can't wrap their heads around because it's not going to happen in California so how can it happen anywhere else?

And the ARAs actively encourage these beliefs. "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain...". They can't do anything about the African population so they can't scream "Donate now!"

Don't see it getting a lot better anytime soon.

Don’t miss the fact that the article and Debra Messing are identifying this girl by her full name and city/state with the intention of feeding trolls who will then protest at her house/work. This is how it works now.

The lady held her ground nicely....
Leftists are truly horrible human beings...
I love how it's a "Rare Bkack Giraffe" and how they are so "Endangered"
An old Stink Bull is now a rare subspecies when it counts...and now all Giraffes are endangered because they get to lie due to a small Northern subspecies, like Rothchilds, being endangered (due to of course poaching and habitat loss)

Wonder how many folks will read the article and think that the “rare black giraffe” is its own species versus, what it is, a regular old giraffe with darker hair (a brunette vs a blonde).

I agree the hunt was perfectly done, but by putting it on social media is just asking the trolls to give there inane opinion..If you want your friends to see your trophy pictures, just send it to them. my opinion I don't post on farcebook.

Yes. If it took writing an article or book, presenting it to a publisher and having them accept it in order for a picture like this to be shared, we’d be a hell of a lot better off.

Social media is the devil. Don’t be a devil worshipper...

When I read the article I thought exactly the same thing. Five years ago in the SAVE in Zim. we saw many Giraffes every day. The guide said the old bulls turn very dark. I probably saw at least 6 that were the color of the one depicted in the news.
Not rare, just old. Modern journalism......

The hunter did not help herself when she 1st stated "rare".

That in itself fed the flames. The controversial images, which were posted by a Kentucky woman identified as Tess Thompson Talley a year ago, show her standing proudly beside a dead giraffe bull along with the caption: “Prayers for my once in a lifetime dream hunt came true today! Spotted this rare black giraffe bull and stalked him for quite a while. I knew it was the one. He was over 18 years old, 4000 lbs. and was blessed to be able to get 2000 lbs. of meat from him.”

I am happy for her that she is excited about her hunt.
Today, more than ever we need to take care with Facebook /Twitter, etc.

Locking it down to friends only, helps a bit, but not enough.

Stay off Facebook.

And if you are on the thing never post trophy photos.

All you are doing is supplying the antis with ammunition, and worse, spurring huge contributions to the main
anti bodies.. And the average punter who knows nothing about Africa and never will, laps it up.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

This is one of the comments I saw on there-one of the latest one posted.

"In the 1800s, cattle ranchers shot off much of the game in southern Africa and brought in domestic livestock. In the mid 1900s, many ranchers saw the advantage of restoring game to the savanna and bush country, thus the inception of the Game Farm."
In South Africa, estimates are now that there is around 65% more game on the plains than there was 100 years ago. Hunter's dollars have brought back several species from the brink of extinction, such as the black wildebeest and both species of rhinos. The full explanation is way too long to go in to here, but people with knowledge of the situation know that trophy hunting aids the local economy, the local people, and greatly increases the game population through conservation (game management, land purchases, etc.).
If you eat meat, you must realize that morally there is absolutely no difference between raising "wild" meat for hunting and raising "domestic" meat that will be sent to the slaughter houses.

I’ve said it a thousand times: We take and share the pictures, THEY write the captions.

I’m afraid too many people either don’t get that or are too selfish to care.

People on the local news here keep saying it was from a species of black giraffes. Hell, it's just an old stink bull that you can find anywhere giraffes exist. People are so ignorant about wildlife.

SCI sent an an email yesterday that the Talleys along with Paul Babaz were going to have an interview this morning on the Today Show to discuss the giraffe photo. The Talleys backed out overnight.

While I don't profess to know why they backed out, I am not sure it was a good idea to do so once they agreed to be interviewed.

I saw a mention of this on the TODAY SHOW this morning, and while I DO NOT like or agree with the way things are going, How Many Of Us Are REALLY Surprised?????

Anyone care to HONESTLY answer that????

Public Opinion is against Trophy Hunting, especially species such as Giraffe/Rhino/Lion/Leopard/Elephant! No One cares about Cape Buffalo at this point in time!

How prominent were Cape Buffalo in the Lion King??? They weren't!!!

Any time/every time anyone that hunts Africa, posts a picture, no matter how innocous, with a Grinning Hunter and a Lion/Elephant/Rhino/Leopard or Giraffe, shit is going to hit the fan, and it is only goi9ng to get WORSE, Not BETTER!

Post ypour photos on sites like AR, but if you post them on Social AKA PUBLIC MEDIA, you are going to getb your ass reamed, and ALL hunters will suffer.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

That's a good point about the bloody Lion King, Randall. tu2

Never thought about it that way.....no Buff....

But members of the public are usually amazed that it is legal to even hunt in Africa!

Cecil getting slotted drove me mad with the stupid commentary and personal attacks. Cat lovers......

And trying to convince them that hunting is ethical is a waste of time.

Like trying to teach a pig to sing Mad
