Mehul,

There are most definatly prize idiots on the Nobel commitee! Just today, several of them were interviewed about Maathais veiw on HIV, and according to them, non of them knew about her HIV statements... If it's true that non of them knew, then it just demonstrates that they have little backround knowledge of the recipient. Which they should have when they are going to pick one of the candidates. And thus they have not done their "job" right no matter how they try to spin it around.

Of course, here in Norway it is practically illegal to say anything bad about africans. Unless the african is a white South African or Zimbabwean, or any other white african, who is looked upon as a left over from colonial times, and thus is probably taking advantage of the poor black people... Then it's OK to rip them apart. To criticize a black african, even when obviously justified is just not done... The hypocricy in Norway is staggering sometimes.

I've felt firsthand a lot of racism and animosity while in various african countrys. Everything from having rocks thrown at us, to not being served in a restaurant. Things that would be on the front pages of newspapers here at home if it was the other way around. Maathais statements is just like throwing gasoline on a fire, and I have no doubt that other innocent people will have nasty experiances because of them.

The sad thing is that many of my countymen refuse to believe the not so nice things we've encountered in africa. It's so much nicer to pretend that everything is nice, warm and fuzzy...

I see that quite a few of you really take African politics to heart. I've stopped reading the news for years and pretty much mind my own business and get along with my neighbours. I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

What the f***k has any of this got to do with African hunting anyways

Aren't her beliefs on AIDS, economics, etc what many black Africans think?

Although this is more suited in the "Crater of Ignorance", it fits here too since it's an African woman named Wangari Maathai from Kenya who won the Nobel "Peace prize" this year.

First of all, I think it's total BS that a person gets this prize (which doesn't hold much value IMO anyway...) for planting trees.

But most importantly, she has several times stated that HIV/AIDS is created by western scientists (read white people) to kill off the blacks in the world. And in africa in particular...

If this isn't a statement that creates hatred amongst uneducated black africans towards whites than I don't know what else would... So basically, the "Peace prize" winner is spreading hate... What gets me irritated is that the media here downplays and hides her veiw on HIV/AIDS so that the general population in Norway is kept ignorant. I can only presume that it is the same in most other countrys media.

I'm kind of curious about how african posters feel about this woman winning the prize, taking into consideration what she is doing to create more animosity towards whites.

I have read several news articles concerning her views that AIDS was developed by scientists for the purpose of killing blacks. It is too bad that the Nobel Committee awarded her a peace prize for planting trees. Several members of the Nobel committee have objected to this saying it doesn't meet the standards for the peace prize.

Her views regarding AIDS are ignorant and uninformed. A continuation of the paranoid view that all of the problems of the black Africans are caused by whites. Not surprising, however, from a culture which continues to decline in spite of enormous monetary aid from the West. When will they look within themselves to find the real cause for their decline and stop blaming others? Africa for Africans, a fitting epitaph.

Terry

Terry, you are getting so forthright in your old age.

For a long time the peace prize has been a political statement rather than recognizing any effort at making peace. Just look at the past recipients, including that brain trust Jimmy Carter.

In my cultural diversity class, I've been reading a book called "I, Rigoberta Menchu" and the indian woman who was interviewed for it won a nobel prize...

It turned out to be just propaganda stuff for guerillas in Guatamala... >_<

The former black mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, was a crook then, still is, and now has the nerve to be running for US Representative. His famnous quote:

"Corruption is sometimes necessary to have progress."

That pretty much says it all.
