fairgamePoacher and his guns. Munyamadzi 1 March 2011.
Just returned from Luangwa and my scouts and I arrested this chap having heard a shot early one morning across the river. There were three of them.
Photos show both muzzle loaders and an ash bag attached to the trigger guard. To me it looks to be a fair copy of a Portuguese musket that were imported into the Zambezi system in the 1920's
The guns were made locally and cost $10 each. Only accurate to 30 yards, however he had managed to poach a warthog and impala before we put a stop to his nonsense.

Looks similar to the current production from Remington.

butchloccouple years ago in tondwa we busted a group & took their gun, it was really quite a well made piece using a piece of driveshaft shield as a barrel they would srap a 12 ga shotgun shell in reeds to tighten it up in the bore. our PH told us that the year before he had grabbed another similar weapon. obviously made by the same person, but each one showed more advanced workmanship. the trigger pull on the thing was better than any lawyer trigger in the US

Given how Zambia deals with foreign poachers in the north, this guy is probably too happy to be Zambian to be humbled by getting caught.

Two years in a rural prison normally takes care of that.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

sandyhunterGreat photos, Andrew. What ends up happening to the confiscated muskets? Seems like a nice conversation piece.

Use Enough GunSince it's "percussion" and not "flintlock", where do they get their primers to put on the nipple? By the way, that appears to be a lot of hand forging!

Bwana NderoboNo wonder those rifles are inaccurate: they're "push" feed...

Brain1You should give him a pound of Winchester 296 and turn him loose. He'll be feeding the vultures shortly thereafter.
