I have a friend who is thinking about booking a trip to Ekland Safaris. I'm not too familiar with the outfits in South Africa. He's not really interested in dangerous game. He's going to take his girlfriend, and her grandparents, and is only interested in some plains game. Maybe a sable and a croc, and a few other things. Have any of you guys been there? Can you share the ups and downs of this place? I'm going to print off your replies and give them to him. I really appreciate your help. Sorry I didn't see any of you in Reno. It was a quick in-and-out for me on Friday. Mark Jackson

Mark, I DO NOT book for them but they do have a good rep. Been around a fair while. I've spoken to a few folks that have gone with them and they all said good things. Of course, there will be someone who didn't. I don't know a company that hasn't had one or two disgruntled clients for whatever reason. Then again, same goes for doc, plumbers or agents. You probably already know this but the sable will be quite pricey in South Africa. With all the non-hunters coming Ekland should be able to put together a very nice touring package to go along with your hunt. Make sure he asks about this before he goes so the Ekland group can do some planning. If they just sit around camp they are going to get a bit bored, or, at least, most would. Very nice lodge and area. I think the King of Spain owns it or some form of royalty. They host a lot of europeans. I know they are a bit higher on their trophy fees and daily rates than some others in the area. It is a very beautiful lodge and neat area. Like everything, make sure and research before he spends a load of money. Tom Addleman tom@dirtnapgear.com

Check out http://www.eklandsafaris.com/ Yes, they have very strong connections with the Spanish royal family. And I would suggest to book as early as possible they are busy. Frederik Cocquyt I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

Hey Fredrik! Good to hear from you old buddy...Long time no talk. Will Christer back back to bug you soon? What else do you know about this place? Is it adjacent to any park property? I downloaded a hunt report, and it looks like they have lion and elephant encounters, which doesn't seem in line with what I pictured in that area? Mark Jackson

OK out of the Horses mouth ye shall hear it, I have been hunting for EKLAND for the last 9 years, even before Kayali built,it up, It is in my mind one of the greatest places if nit the best in South Africa, The King of Spain has hunted there , and are firends with the owners, so is the Saudi Royla family, they are expensive but ti is the best lodge in South Africa, I own my own outfit now, and still freelance for them on occasion if needed and will for as long as they need me, Best food accomodations, hot pool in the middle of a mopane forest, where elephant walk past, Walter Enslin kwansafaris@mweb.co.za DRSS- 500NE Sabatti 450 Rigby 416 Rigby
