I haven't yet hunted Africa, but will in the next few years, but in the meantime very much enjoy reading about it and living vicariously here through the tales of those folks who do hunt it. Anyway, here's my question: while in the bush, I'm sure folks often come across carcasses, bone and other odd anatomical parts of various critters, as I did while as a kid in on a trip to Kenya/Tanzania. What's the law on bringing anything like that back with you? Is it posssible to bring back parts of critters you did *not* take yourself, say, a found baboon skull, or a set of horns, or is that a no-no? Just curious. I ask because on the hunts I do go on, I often find bits and pieces of things that I take a liking to, and bring them back, be they shells, teeth, stone, wood or bone, but not sure if there's a problem with that sort of thing coming back from any of the African countries. TIA for any responses. Leighton

You are not "suppposed" to bring back animal or animal parts that haven't been cleaned/disenfected. On our last trip, we found porcupine quills several times, and always picked them up for good luck. They sell them in stores, so we figured that if we got stopped, we'd say they were purchased. It could be that the stuff is confiscated - like folkls that bring biltong back. That being said, the risk is yours to run. For the record, we were never asked about the quills.

Howdy Leighton, Renae and I do the same thing, and we have brought back various things. You could always have bigger things added to a hide and horns shipment if you need to run them through the "official" system. jim
