First, hello to all. This is my first post. This forum was recommended to me from another forum that I regular. My wife and I will be married 20 years next year. We never took a honeymoon, just went to work. Well now we have done ok for ourselves, kids getting grown and its our turn. We want to go to Africa and hunt plains game. I would love some good reccomendations from folks who have been there or from PH'ers. Thanks
SavageSniper, Welcome to the forum. You will get lots of recomendations for PH's and destinations. I would suggest South Africa or Namibia for a first safari, especially bringing the wife. I have been hunting with Sportsmans Safaris twice and think very highly of Clive and his operation.

Congrats on those wonderful years. My wife and I just spent our 29th anniversary on a hilltop, by a fire with a bucket of champagne, in Namibia on my leopard hunt. Our friends set it up as a special surprise for us with camp chairs, hors d'ouveres and cheeses, and candlelight surrounding us. Watched the sunset, then the full moon rise over the mountains.
I would also recommend Namibia for a first trip for plains game, and some sightseeing in Windhoek, Etosha, and fishing on the coast.
If you are going to make a go of it with your blushing bride, I would have to suggest one of the safari companies with a feel for the classic safari. Permanent camp set up with thatched huts, the whole nine yards. Some place that will feel like "home." Also either do the safari in Zimbabwe or at least leave time in your schedule to wisk the young lady off for a minumum of at least one night and a full day at Victoria Falls.
Cheers, to you and once you go, you better be prepared to shell out lots of dough over the next few years, cause the bug will bite you and you will have to go back.

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on a good start with the marriage. I think that you are making a great decision to venture forth to Africa and to enjoy something so unique and special to share for the remainder of your days. I will not recomend a specific outfit, but would suggest a Namibian plains game hunt on a comfortable ranch. This way your wife would be sure to get a very special treatment as well.

L. David KeithWelcome to the forum and congrats on your forthcoming 20th anniversary. Since you are taking your wife for what I assume is your first trip to Africa, I would start with the Eastern Cape of South Africa on the Indian Ocean. You can hunt 43 species together, horseback ride, fish, lounge on your own private beach, watch for Whales from a lighthouse and then move upcountry into Limpopo for excellent Nyala, Limpopo Bushbuck, Greater Kudu, Hippo or Crocodile if you like. Elephant rides, diving with sharks, shopping or going through the wildlife parks can all be arranged. Entry into the country is easy. Costs are very reasonable and you won't be shooting game from the vehicle. Weather is very pleasant during our summer months and there are no Malaria worries. I've yet to see a Mosquito in the Eastern Cape. I'm returning myself in 3 weeks as I love the area and the sights alone are worth the trip. Contact me if I can answer any questions. My wife and I had our honeymoon in Zimbabwe in 1994.
We had a weeks plains game safari and then four weeks driving around the country (in those days there was fuel and people were happy!) visiting Vic Falls, Matapos, Hwange, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, plus a canoe "safari" on the Zambezi for a few days. A wonderful trip.
I think lots of outfitters could make a special hunting safari and trip for you in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia or Botswana, with lots of side attractions to add on.
A Tanzania tented camp would also be nice. Side trips to the 'romantic' Serengetti (watch the movie "Out of Africa" again), Ngorongoro Crater, Zanzibar would also be nice.

SavageSniperThanks to everyone, I feel at home allready. I will be contacting some of you and using the advice from all. I have been to North Africa courtesy of Uncle Sam for where and why we will not talk about here. My wife has never been out of the states so she is in for a treat I am sure. I will have more questions for sure and I will surely ask them. See you soon
If it were me, I'd do a couple of days at the Victoria Falls Hotel, assuming that Zim hasen't collapsed, than go to the Okavango delta and a tented safari. You can go cheaper, but you can't go better.
