For those that might be interested I recorded Tuesday's episode and watched it last night. Host Mike Rodgers takes a very nice Lion in Tanzania with a pretty 458 Lott. I can't say that I am a big fan of the show, like Tracks. However this was a very good episode and the Lion has a very nice mane, killed in Masiland. The show comes on the Sportsman Channel, and I think they usually have re-runs not sure of the time.

I recorded it earlier and saw it today...great hunt...no fences...nice lion. Often there are inconsistencies in the show (tongue in cheek) for example the New Zealand show where M.R. was supposed to hunt Tahr "on foot" in the NZ Alps and then you saw the chopper in the background. It was kind of funny !!!

Don't they sometimes use helos to recover the animal? Hunt on foot then avoid the hard work... Since it's the guide who usually gets stuck with it maybe they hire them? Or to get a lift to the top of the peaks... just because you saw a helo doesnt mean very much. A day spent in the bush is a day added to your life Hunt Australia - Website Hunt Australia - Facebook Hunt Australia - TV

If you saw a helo, there is ALWAYS the question of legitimacy when dealing with doing it as a job, not the hunting experience it would be for the rest of us. Can you remember the last show they had where goober did not kill something? Me either! Rich

Legitimacy or just honesty??? Goober!! hehehe My experience with these guys is that they look for the very best hunting areas (not the cheapest) - for a high profile TV show that is a good idea because there is more chance of getting a quality kill on camera - which is pretty much the whole point of the show - showing what a typical hunt is like and show-casing that particular type of hunt, not actually 'living' the whole hunt like you and I would. Do you know what I mean? I didnt see the show but I would see the helicopter being shown as just honesty .....but Im surprised they didnt explain how it was used??? That NZ show from past season was real heavy about the "on foot in the Alps" message....and I watched and admired the effort they were putting into the hunt. I think the editor went on a coffee break because they panned the camera and you could see the chopper on the ground not 30 yards away. So why beat the "on foot" drum and then show that you used the chopper. It ruined the show for me. I have been to NZ and I know first hand how hard hunting on foot really is in the Alps. Choppers have turned the Tahr hunting into an afternoon event. I see nothing wrong with using the choppers because not everyone has the time to spend days and weeks to climb mountains. If you are going to use them for transportation or logistics then be upfront about it. Many shows that show the client having a nice breakfast, leaving the lodge in the helicopter, being dropped at a higher elevation, hunting, recovery of trophy, trophy hanging by a rope, guide holding on to the rope, everything is couple of hundred feet up in the air....makes for exciting television....client is back to the lodge by dinner time. So absolutely nothing wrong with it as they show that chopper is playing an integral part in the hunt. They are not pretending that the hunt was done "on foot".
