In three days my wife Kathy and I will drive over to Jackson and meet up with SBT and his wife Pam. Then on the 29th we all fly together to the Upper Luangwa River Valley in Zambia. We will be hunting with Johnny DuPlooy for 21 days in the Chanjuzi Game Management Area.

On the menu is Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Hippo, Croc , Hyena and various plainsgame.

From what I am able to find out the temperatures will be around 95 F during the day with around 90% humidity. Something we are not accustomed to.

I will be taking a 375 H&H and 416 Rem. Scott will be using a 375 H&h and 416 Rigby.

I spoke to Laura DuPlooy yesterday and there is a good lion on a Hyena bait right now. Scott will be the first in camp with the opportunity to hunt him.

We wish you all the best and am sorry I will miss more of Retreever's and Saeed's stories!

John

You fellows, please leave your wives. You know that I'm in love with them and will find them some entertainment while you are gone... clap

Seriously... I know how long you have been planning and awaiting this trip. I hope it is as successful as can be. And tell the ladies I'll see you all in January for a full play-by-play!

BTW, I'll bet you don't sleep much between now and gear-in-the-well.

Try dinner at the Vic Falls Hotel! Great floor show! and 100 different meat choices that will be cooked to order!

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

30ott6...Go into the archives, and pull up a hunt report by J.L.Schott which took place August 2003.
Regarding the heat question, I can only relate the temp was not any significant problem during our stay in Chanjuzi. However, we were there three weeks earlier in August, and as I recall, no one complained about the day-time heat.
Best of luck, J.L.Schott; JLS; Tsibindi

Tim,
The more I shoot your old Ruger, the more I love it. It is truely a "one-holer". She'll be the first rifle up as the plan is to take a hippo on the day of arrival for lion bait.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I'm so excited I can't concentrate on anything right. Down to last minute stuff- bank, haircut, mow yard, irrigate, shoot rifle again, pack and so on.

Really have no way to make daily or delayed reports but you'll hear an earful when we get back!

Mike- I got the Gatorade and will buy you a beer in Dallas. There's gonna be some great times in January!

John, you guys will have a great time there as it is a great area. I have 4 clients in there right now hunting buffalo, so should have plenty of baits there for you when you arrive. All my clients that have already been there this year have had great safaris. I communicate with Laura almost daily, but give her my regards for me if you remember.

If anyone is interested in going to Zambia this year still, just got news that there is a 7-day buffalo/hippo/crocodile hunt open starting October 16th forward.
