A little temp difference but went out and shot the 450#2, 458 Lott, and 375....
Met Big Five Jack in the cold Pennsylvania countryside and we had breakfast and ventured out into the cold rifle range with 6 inches of snow and temps of 12 degrees...
Jack has never shot a big boomer and I introduced him the the Lott and it's snapping aggressive recoil on cold fingers and bodies..Then the 450#2 and shooting and reloding and more shooting..
I settled on the 88gr. loads of RL15..Held the rifle on shooting sticks, bipod...100yd target and took out the Xring...I am happy and not going to try any different load...
Then we made some gravel with Bridger solids.. From the 375 and the Lott...Finished up with anenjoyable homemade lunch...
Enjoyed Jack's company on the range...One of us..

Glad you had a good time. Nothing warms you up like burning gunpowder.

I don't think I know Jack, but the handles always intrigue me. How do you get a nick name like Big Five Jack if you've never shot a large rifle?

Just curious... or maybe I don't want to know Wink

Good for you Michael. It is never a bad day when you are out shooting. I would like to know how you are handloading to compensate for the temperature difference you will encounter in August?

I also shoot 88 grains of RL 15 in my 450 No2.
That is the load I used in Zim in June of 2004.
I have also shot it in TX in the hot summer and in the cold of winter with out any problems.

To Kyler Hamann,

As to the screen name I decided on, it's all about what "LIGHTS A PERSON UP". My recreational dreams/goals are of The Big Five! I'm almost 46 and the dream gets stronger and stronger each year. I want The Big Five. I hope, before I'm dead, I'll have one or maybe two of them bagged. More than that, though possible, would be close to a miracle. I'm not pretending to be something I'm not, I'm just shamelessly announcing what gets me into overdrive, the legend that is AFRICA. For a lengthy description of my day out shooting with Mike, RETREEVER look in this forum for "RETREEVER I THANK YOU - FROM BIGFIVEJACK"
