I am going cow elephant hunting with Alan Shearing (who is working for Buzz Charlton) in Zim in September.I will be hunting with a friend who will be an observer and carying the spare rifle. We will be hunting the Omay area.
Has anyone hunted with Alan before and does anyone know what the Omay is like?

Australia
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of drought and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

I just watched Charlton's new ele hunting video last night. Based on what I saw, you're in for a great time!

Wombat,
If Buzz does not have a video man {apprentice} it would be worth while to get your friend to carry a small vedio camera also.
The Omay is good for Elle and Buff hunts.
Cheers,
ozhunter.

Wombat, There is a lot of info on Omay here on the forum, much of it recent. Do a search and sort by date, or... (it will take 10-20 seconds to execute the query)

Everything I have heard in regards to Alan has been very positive.

When I was hunting elephant with Rory Muil (Russ Broom Safaris) Alan stayed in our camp between his buffalo hunts for Russ. His wife was our camp manager. They're all terrific people. I never got to hunt with Alan but he has a great disposition and seemed quite knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Best of luck,
Kyler

I just returned yesterday from Zimbabwe, and Alan Shearing was my PH. Alan is an outstanding PH, very polite, and professional in all respects. We were fortunate to obtain a beautiful Zebra stallion and two PAC Bull Elephants. Needless to say, you will enjoy Alan.

Thanks for the positive replys.
Next question-does anyone know where I can obtain good maps of "Buzz's Omay" and the area known as Kwekwe where my friend will be plains game hunting?

For a relatively detailed Map of Omay and it's various camp's, go to www.hhksafaris.com , and click on Omay. There you will find many answers to your questions. With regards to Piscottie Ranch in Kwekwe, where CMS runs its 14,000 acre hunting area, it is about 50km east of KweKwe. I have hunted this Beautiful area, but was unable to find any detailed maps. You will both have a Fantastic time with CMS. Good Luck!

I hunted with Alan last year in Chewore - absolutely top PH. Feel free to PM if you wish, but you'll have a great experience. Charlie.
