Thats Ronny Crouse(sp) of Johan Calitz Safaris that made a very lucky shot. The short story is that a client had wounded the lion and Ronny plus several others were called upon to help sort things out. I believe Ronny wrote in up in some RSA publication. It was discussed at some length here on AR and Ronny even came on with a litte clarification of some speculations about the facts.

The man that was knocked down fire the fatal shot. It hit the lion right between the eyes and brained it. It was dead instantly and collapsed in the lap on the guy that fired the fatal shot. I have it on tivo. You can slow mo and pause and see the bullet entry perfectly.

Kamo GariWow. Certainly gives one a good idea of just how fast things (bad things in particular) can happen. As as aside, I believe that was Santa Claus I heard ho-ho-hoing after the shot, yes?

BwannaThere was a good article in Peterson's Hunting this month by Boddington about a lion charge in a sugarcane field. He says he considers the lion the most dangerous of the big 5 and notes that you can't turn a lion charge with a gunshot, only stop a lion charge (hence, in his opinion, only the brain shot is effective)

yukon deltaThat's impressive! I almost didn't view it as I thought it was the old footage of the lion in the fence. This is some good footage. I bet he had to change his shorts on that one.

L. David KeithOnce a Lion decides to sort you out, it's only a matter of who gets sh*t on them, 'cause it is going to hit the fan. LDK

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Charles_HelmI still have that episode of Dangerous Game on the DVR -- some great footage in that one. He makes a great shot.
They were showing the complete video leading up to this charge at SCI in Reno at John's booth. It was very exciting to watch the whole thing.

Do a search and you will find a lot of guys that said they would go after a lion or leopard with a shot gun.
