No Courtney hunting boots for this lad, just flip flops! Was he shooting a .243? I found it a bit sickening, but that is probably just me. Shot way too far back.

Take the kid to the local pub and have another Foster's. Nobody was ready (nor equipped) for that hunt (shoot?).

Pretty bad. Obviously a game ranch buff and not a free range buff up on the Coberg Peninsula.

Father and son had better hope that Mum never gets to see that video because if she does, she'll probably amputate Dad's nuts without an anesthetic and forbid the kid to ever pick up a rifle again! rotflmo

As Aubs said, what a tosser!

Good thing it was one of those water buffalos.
If it was a wounded cape buffalo, I would imagine it would have charged that kid, being so close to it!

Correct me if Im wrong but I think it did try to get him, as the guy drops the camera angle down... then you see the bull isnt quite on his feet. That was my initial thought when I saw it - that the kid actually did get charged and his second shot knocked it back onto its knees... bit hard to tell exactly though..

Scope wasn't much use at 10 feet. He looks like he was try to use it early on and was aiming over its head. Then at the end he approached the head end - bad move even if the buff was very sick.

I think that Saeed has cautioned us all. (I hasten to say that I was a one time Cape buffalo hunter) It's a water buffalo - an entirely different kind of animal from our Cape buffalo ( Five year olds in the Philippines ride them out to the rice paddies ) I suppose that in Australia, the breed is different - but I have never noticed that the Aussies (a pretty tough lot in my experience) have ever really claimed that their breed is as fearsome as the familiar Cape buffalo. Having said all that (as a longwinded Irishman) I now want to say that if that was a 15 year old boy -he is a good son of his Australian ancestors who fought at Gallipoli in WW1 and at New Guinea in WW2. Frankly, from what I watched on my laptop, the boy responded bravely. I didn't see him running away - he stepped back and got his bearings -if he were my son, I would be quite peoud of him. (yes, I do agree with the poster who noted that you never walk up on a downed animal from head first (because, as my father told me, the deer will see you and the jolt of adrenalin will, maybe, put him on his feet) The young man acted bravely in accordance with his blood.

Reminds me of what an old friend of mine used to say about cape buff... they wake up in the morning feeling really shitty but the more you shoot 'em the better they feel!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Australia
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of drought and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

I hope they do a follow-up "how to" video with pointers on field dressing water buffalo with a dull spoon while wearing flip flops. popcorn

No, you can't convince me that Australia has anything like the African Cape buffalo! I think it is simply that you Aussies, being a rather timid lot, and not accustomed to danger, just don't know how to put down your local cattle.Smiler (I love insulting Aussies from half a world away from the anonymity of the internet!) Smiler On a serious note - I remember the Aussies from WW2 -and have read history of what Aussies did at Gallipoli in WW1 - so take my comments as kidding you.Fact.
