Does anyone know for sure if brown hyena can be imported to the states right now? I have three permits this year and I need to know if I can sell them to American hunters or just concentrate on European clients for them. Hair, not Air! Rob Martin

I believe the Brown Hyena, although no longer listed on CITES Appendix II, is still listed under the US Endgangered Species Act. Therefore, I don't believe it can imported into the US. I'd be hunting them in RSA, in Mpumalanga where I have legal permits. I knew they were no longer CITES I, but I wasn't sure how far behind the times USFW was on South African browns Hair, not Air! Rob Martin

I hunted them in May of '04 in S.A. I never did take one though, maybe that is a good thing!! They are wiley S.O.B's, and were reaking havoc on my P.H.'s black and white Springbuck. My U.S.A. booking agent or my P.H. never mentioned anything about importation problems. My P.H. did have to apply for a permit in S.A. before my arrival, about $35.00 U.S. I received an email from my P.H. in July saying they had finally trapped the two they thought were doing all the dammage.
